Essential Job Duties
Join the Comparative Platelet Physiology and Coagulation Laboratory as a Lab Coordinator under the direction of Dr. Ronald H. L. Li. In this versatile role, you will oversee laboratory procurement and inventory while preparing cellular preparations for flow cytometry, coagulation and protein analyses, and cellular or histologic preparations for microscopy. Beyond technical execution, you will collaborate on experimental design and play a key role in mentoring the next generation of student researchers.

Key Responsibilities Include:

Research Support

  • Independently manage the preparation of cellular and histologic samples for flow cytometry, protein analysis, and microscopy.
  • Collaborate on the design, optimization, and execution of experimental protocols.
  • Perform critical data analysis and interpretation, identifying trends and troubleshooting experimental variances.
  • Actively contributing to manuscripts by synthesizing research findings and drafting technical methodologies.
  • Assist in leading presentations of experimental data during weekly laboratory meetings and oversee the documentation of technical discussions and action items.
  • Assist with orchestrating the laboratory seminar series and journal club, managing speaker logistics and coordinating professional exchange environments.


Lab Management

  • Autonomously track and manage chemical and supply inventories; execute strategic procurement and formulate complex stock solutions.
  • Maintain rigorous standards for laboratory hygiene (glassware, incubators, water baths) and oversee sterilization processes.
  • Enforce strict adherence to biohazard disposal protocols and laboratory safety requirements; manage equipment maintenance schedules and independently perform quality control audits.
  • Organization of billing, P-card reconciliation, and strategic budgeting for specific grants and experimental pipelines.
  • Manage the formal record-keeping of laboratory proceedings and coordinate high-level scheduling for visiting researchers.

Mentorship & Collaboration

  • Actively participate in student teaching and laboratory instruction.
  • Partner with the research team to drive Dr. Ronald H. L. Li's laboratory objectives; serve as a primary liaison for the Clinical Studies Core and external laboratories to facilitate clinical trials.
  • Lead training programs for veterinary students, undergraduates, house officers, and graduate students, ensuring proficiency in complex laboratory techniques and daily operations.

Qualifications






Minimum Education and Experience

  • Post-baccalaureate credentials or a bachelor's degree plus alternative or equivalent professional training and experience may be substituted for the advanced degree on an exceptional basis.
  • Educational background in Cell Biology, Biology, Animal Science, or a related field, or equivalent combination of experience and training
  • Experience(s) with working in a cell biology laboratory and some experiences with flow cytometry is essential.

  • Previous experience as a lab coordinator or lab manager.
  • Experience with flow cytometry (preparation of samples, analysis of data).
  • Experience in writing and submitting IACUC protocols under the direction of the principal investigator; Experience in data analysis and drafting manuscripts for publication.
  • Experiences handling small animals (dogs and cats).
  • Scheduling flexibility.
