Utilities & Engineering Services team as the
Central Utility Plant Day Shift Supervisor, where your leadership directly supports the energy infrastructure that powers our campus. In this role, you will lead a skilled team responsible for the safe and efficient operation of electrical generation systems, steam production, combustion turbine generators, boilers, chillers, and associated utility equipment.
You will play a vital role in ensuring reliable campus operations while maintaining regulatory compliance, optimizing system performance, and supporting utility budget energy savings.
This position is ideal for a motivated professional who enjoys mentoring others, solving complex operational challenges, and driving continuous improvement in plant performance and safety standards. You'll be part of a collaborative team that keeps essential campus systems running 24/7. Key responsibilities and duties include, but are not limited to:
- Apply regulatory requirements daily and ensure compliance with federal, state, local, and organizational safety and health policies and procedures
- Demonstrate thorough knowledge of all applicable codes and methods for operating central utility plant equipment
Manage the operation and staffing of five central utility plants, including electrical generation, steam production, and hot water and chilled water production, while touring assigned plants to monitor safe operation, identify safety hazards, and oversee equipment through control systems, visual inspections, and plant walk-throughs Coordinate daily work schedules of shift personnel, review and correct log entries for accuracy and trends, report incidents and near misses, and review/approve timesheets with employees- Determine the order of operation for all assigned equipment, considering operational differences, system demand, efficiency, maintenance, and repair cycles
- Coordinate equipment maintenance, manage equipment loss or capacity reduction, troubleshoot and coordinate necessary repairs, and participate in training and start-up testing
- Coordinate with Water Treatment Technician to address water treatment issues and direct subordinates to performwater quality tests
- Conduct electrical peak shaving as directed by the Operations Supervisor to minimize on-peak demand charges and transition to alternate fuels as required to prevent non-compliance charges
- Communicates effectively with supervisors, coworkers, and the general public, and follows verbal and written instructions related to work assignments and operational needs
- Perform lifting duties up to 30 pounds frequently and 60 pounds occasionally, with or without reasonable accommodations

Qualifications
| Minimum Experience/Education |
High school diploma or equivalency and four years of experience in applicable utility operations, of which one year is supervisory; or an equivalent combination of training and experience. Maintains required certification(s). |
| Preferred Qualifications |
- Experience in steam production (natural gas/fuel oil fire tube and water tube boilers up to 100kpph).
- Experience in chilled water production (electric driven/turbine driven up to 2000tons).
- Experience in a central plant environment.
- Experience supervising employees in a utility plant setting.
