General Summary

The Associate Director of Licensing with TIDO will negotiate transfer of Children's research innovations to corporate partners for product development. Manage IP portfolio, oversee outside patent counsel, and make strategic investment decisions in patents/applications. They will lead and close complex industrial sponsored research and commercialization deals. Develop commercialization strategies and negotiate high-value, complex agreements. Manage major office-wide initiatives and high-profile projects while balancing competing priorities and stakeholder relationships. Mentor junior staff in negotiating simple agreements and independently leads complex business negotiations.

Key Responsibilities
  • Technology & Disclosure Management: Receives and organizes innovations; evaluates commercial potential based on IP strength, development stage, and market opportunity.
  • Patent & IP Portfolio Oversight: Manages patent strategy with outside counsel, guides go/no-go decisions, and values IP for corporate transactions.
  • Agreement Negotiation (Simple & Complex): Drafts and negotiates NDAs and similar agreements independently; leads strategy and execution for term sheets, licenses, options, and sponsored research agreements.
  • Faculty & Start-Up Relationship Management: Serves as faculty ambassador, manages startup-related matters, and collaborates with legal and conflict-of-interest teams.
  • Stakeholder & Leadership Engagement: Navigates complex negotiations and disputes, leads cross-functional initiatives, and works with senior leadership to execute strategic programs.
  • Commercialization & Team Leadership: Develops commercialization strategies with business development leaders and mentors team members in structuring and negotiating agreements.
Minimum Requirements:
Education
  • Advanced degree in Life Sciences, Engineering, Business or Law
  • CLP, RTTP or Patent Bar certification preferred
Experience
  • 7 years of direct experience required in scientific/technology evaluation, business development/marketing, patents or similar.
  • Proven ability to negotiate complex, high-value deals.
  • Strong mentorship skills and teamwork in a matrixed environment.
  • Deep understanding of life sciences research, commercial assessment, and patent law.
  • Expertise in developing and executing commercialization strategies.
  • Excellent communication, analytical, and strategic thinking skills.
  • Skilled in stakeholder management, relationship building with industry, multitasking, and use of databases and project management tools.

The posted pay range is Boston Children's reasonable and good-faith expectation for this pay at the time of posting.

Any base pay offer provided depends on skills, experience, education, certifications, and a variety of other job-related factors.
