BUSINESS DEVELOPMENT MANAGER

The primary role of the Business Development Manager is to prospect for new clients by networking, contacting, advertising or other means of generating interest from potential clients. Responsibilities include planning persuasive approaches that will convince potential clients to do business with McGough, develop a rapport with clients, set targets for sales and provide support that will continually improve the relationship.

This person works with mid and senior level management, marketing and technical staff and helps direct the activities of others responsible for developing business for the company. Strategic planning is a key part of this position.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Required:



  • Bachelor's degree
  • 5-10 years of related experience and demonstrated history of driving profitable company growth
  • Knowledge of the local Architectural, Engineering or Construction (AEC) Industry
  • Demonstrated teamwork and leadership skills
  • Strong verbal and written communication, coaching and presentation skills
  • Good interpersonal abilities


Preferred:



  • Minimum five to ten years of experience with at least two years in the Architectural, Engineering or Construction (AEC) industry
  • CRM experience
  • Adobe Creative Suites skills


Office and Travel:

In addition to regional meetings, overnight travel may be involved.

Responsibilities and Tasks:



  • New Business Development

    • Prospect for potential new clients and turn this into increased business.
    • Contact as appropriate within your market or geographic area to ensure a robust pipeline of opportunities.
    • Meet potential clients by growing, maintaining, and leveraging your network.
    • Research and build relationships with new clients.
    • Set up meetings between client decision makers and company's practice leaders/Principals
    • Plan approaches and pitches.
    • Work with team to develop proposals that speak to the client's needs, concerns and objectives.
    • Provide strategic interview coaching to the team.
    • Present an image that mirrors that of the client.


  • Client Retention

    • Work with technical staff and other internal colleagues to meet customer needs.
    • Arrange and participate in internal and external client debriefs.


  • Business Development Planning

    • Attends industry functions, such as association events and conferences, and provide feedback and information on market and creative trends.
    • Present to and consult with mid and senior level management on business trends with a view to developing new services, products and distribution channels.
    • Identify opportunities for campaigns, services and distribution channels that will lead to an increase in revenue.
    • Using knowledge of the market and competitors, identify and develop the company's unique selling propositions and differentiators.


  • Management and Research

    • Submit progress reports and ensure data is accurate.
    • Ensure that data is accurately entered and managed within the company's CRM or other sales management system.
    • Track and record activity on accounts and help to close deals to meet these targets.
    • Work with marketing staff to ensure that prerequisites (like prequalification or getting on a vendor list) are fulfilled within a timely manner.
    • Ensure all team members represent the company in the best light.
    • Research and develop a thorough understanding of the company's people and capabilities.
    • Understand the company's goal and purpose so that will continue to enhance the company's performance.

Position involves sitting for extended periods of time at employee's workstation and during meetings as well as while traveling, either by plane or car. Employee needs to be able to lift up to 20 pounds as frequently as needed to move objects; dexterity to write and manipulate computer keyboard and mouse; ability to hear and speak clearly; and ability to distinguish between colors on graphs and charts.

Occasionally, employees will be required to visit construction jobsites which may expose the employee to dirt, dust, uneven surfaces, outdoor weather conditions and extreme temperatures.
