Minimum Job Requirements


  • Proficient in standard PC applications and keyboard use.
  • Ability to work on the manufacturing floor with or without reasonable accommodation.
  • Visual acuity sufficient to evaluate coating quality and process effectiveness.
  • Ability to travel for up to 15 weeks per year.


Job Duties and Responsibilities

The Coatings Process Engineer leads the design, implementation, and optimization of automated powder coating and e-coat manufacturing systems. This role drives capital projects from concept through production launch, ensuring coating processes meet customer, quality, and regulatory requirements. The position is responsible for improving process capability, efficiency, and reliability while advancing surface treatment technologies across manufacturing operations.


  • Optimize and validate coating processes to ensure quality, efficiency, cost-effectiveness, and regulatory compliance.
  • Research and implement advancements in coating technologies. Lead the charge in the design, specification, capital justification and implementation of state-of-the-art process equipment.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve process issues using engineering methods, root cause analysis, SPC, and DOE.
  • Design and implement process controls to reduce variability and eliminate defects.
  • Conduct experiments and analyze data to drive continuous improvement and performance gains.
  • Establish and standardize manufacturing processes and quality expectations.
  • Provide technical support and training to production teams on best practices and new technologies.
  • Ensure safety, environmental, customer, and government requirements are met.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.


Knowledge, Skills and Abilities


  • Proven experience developing, optimizing, and sustaining mechanized and automated manufacturing processes across fabrication, finishing, assembly and material handling operations.
  • Strong technical expertise in the areas of mechanized powder coating, e-coating, painting and other surface treatments strongly desired.
  • Ability to troubleshoot and improve coating systems using structured engineering methods.
  • Experience managing projects related to implementation of production coating systems.
  • Experience working with AS, TS, &/or ISO requirements.
  • Excellent organizational, leadership, interpersonal and communication skills (written and verbal)


Education and Experience

* B.S. degree in Engineering - Chemical, Material, or Mechanical Engineering, preferred.

* Strong background with semi-automated and automated manufacturing processes.

* Experience with Powder Coating and E-Coating of metal parts strongly preferred.

* Demonstrated capital project management experience from concept through implementation required.

* Experience establishing or launching paint/coating manufacturing line is desired.
