Nursing Unit Secretary (MS3 - Med Surg Unit)
Location: Maine Medical Center Biddeford - MS3
Address: 1 Medical Center Drive, Third Floor, Biddeford, ME 04005
Schedule: Full Time, 0.9 FTE (Three 12-hour shifts)
Hours: 7:00 PM - 7:00 AM
Shift: Night shift with every other weekend rotation

Position Summary

Step into the fast-paced world of acute care as a Nursing Unit Secretary on our busy MS3 Medical Surgical unit at MaineHealth. The Nursing Unit Secretary performs clerical, receptionist, and transporter duties in support of patient care operations on the unit. This role serves as the central communication hub, ensuring accurate coordination between patients, families, nurses, providers, and ancillary departments.

Key Responsibilities
  • Serve as the primary receptionist for the unit, greeting patients and visitors professionally and courteously

  • Manage incoming calls and direct communication appropriately

  • Process physician orders and maintain accurate patient records within the electronic medical record

  • Coordinate patient admissions, discharges, and transfers

  • Facilitate communication between clinical staff and support departments

  • Assist with transport coordination and other unit support duties as needed

  • Maintain organization of unit supplies, records, and workspaces

    Required Minimum Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSAs)

    1. Education: High School diploma or GED preferred.
    2. License/Certifications: Current BLS certification preferred or may be required based on location.
    3. Experience: One year of hospital or health care setting preferred.
