Summary:

The Clinical Pastoral Education Director is responsible for the effective leadership and management of The Clinical Pastoral Education (CPE) Center and its staff, students, programs, and processes in accordance with the Mission, Vision, Core Values and Spirituality of CSRHS and the Standards of the Association of Clinical Pastoral Education (ACPE), including recruitment, processing, interviewing, and assessing readiness of staff and applicants. The CPE Director is also responsible for the orientation, planning, developing, implementing, supervision and evaluation of CPE units and providing supervision, leadership, direction and focus for CPE students to enhance Spiritual Care and Spiritual Care Education across the region, and when arranged, for CHRISTUS Health System Associates in other regions. The position will work collaboratively with the Director of Spiritual Care, other members of the Spiritual Care Department and Mission Integration Division, clinical and ancillary Directors, Physicians, members of the CPE Program's Professional Advisory committee, hospital and health system leadership and management, and identified community partners.

The CPE Director is seen as an educational leader in CHRISTUS Santa Rosa Health System and reports within the Mission Integration Department.

Responsibilities:


  • Meets expectations of the applicable OneCHRISTUS Competencies: Leader of Self, Leader of Others, or Leader of Leaders.
  • Plan, conduct and evaluate programs of Clinical Pastoral Education and coordinate clinical rotations and experiences for the CPE residents/interns with other CPE Certified Educators (if applicable) in a way that promotes and defends the human dignity and holistic care of applicants and students, as well as ensure continued quality spiritual care within the facilities
  • Oversee and ensure effective stewardship of resources in ongoing accreditation, budgeting, grant writing and handbook updates for the Clinical Pastoral Education program. Utilize creativity in staffing and stewardship in expanding the CPE program to meet the growing needs within CSRHS and the surrounding seminary/theological communities.
  • Provide leadership and education within CHRISTUS Santa Rosa Health System to nurture a just culture promoting the common good while embodying and upholding organizational Spirituality, Core Values. Vision and Mission of CHRISTUS Santa Rosa Health System, the heritage of the Sponsoring Congregations: The Sisters of Charity of the Incarnate Word and the Sisters of the Holy Family of Nazareth, and promotion of the Ethical and Religious Directives for Catholic Health Care Services.
  • Interface with community and local clergy to marketing the CPE program, and to ensure action in communion with the Church for provision of ongoing spiritual services and build community relationships.
  • Participate in programs and administrative activities of the organization. Participate in applicable staff meetings. Participate in regular professional development. Participate in periodic planning meetings for department directors.
  • As applicable to the care setting and qualifications of the individual: contribute to the wider community through publication teaching and research. Author or co-author materials relevant to spiritual care/pastoral education. Participate in teaching/lecturing on a regular or periodic basis as invited. Participate in research relevant to the field.
  • Performs all duties in a manner that protects the confidentiality of patients and students, and does not solicit or disclose any confidential information unless it is necessary in the performance of assigned job duties or as required by law.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Requirements:

Education/Skills


  • Master's degree in Divinity or Theology, Doctoral studies preferred
  • National Faculty level as CPE Certified Educator, preferred

Experience


  • Minimum 5 years' experience as a CPE Certified Educator with at least 2 years in a management/supervisory role
  • At least 5 years' experience as a chaplain in the health care setting.

Licenses, Registrations, or Certifications


  • Certification as a Clinical Pastoral Education Certified Educator or Associate Certified Educator, ACPE
  • Certification as a Chaplain in the NACC or APC
  • Denominational Endorsement
