Job Description




As a Security Officer - Data Center Patrol in Richmond, VA, you will serve and safeguard clients in a range of industries such as Tech/Media/Telecom, and more. As an unarmed Patrol Officer with Allied Universal at a fast-paced tech location, you will monitor and patrol assigned areas, maintain a visible presence that helps to deter security-related incidents, and respond to routine needs with calm, professional customer service. You will communicate clearly with site contacts, document observations, and support a culture that is agile, reliable, innovative, and grounded in teamwork and integrity.

What You'll Do:

  • Provide customer service to visitors, employees, and/or contractors by carrying out security-related procedures, site-specific policies, and when appropriate, emergency response activities at a technology and telecommunications location.
  • Respond to incidents and critical situations in a calm, problem-solving manner, including de-escalating situations and notifying site leadership and/or emergency services as directed.
  • Conduct regular and random foot and/or vehicle patrols of interior areas, exterior grounds, parking areas, and perimeter routes to help to deter unwanted activity.
  • Monitor access points and verify authorized entry using site procedures, visitor management practices, and identification checks when required.
  • Observe and report suspicious activity, hazards, and/or unusual conditions, then document observations and actions in written reports and shift logs.
  • Perform routine checks of doors, gates, loading areas, and sensitive workspaces to help to deter unauthorized access and/or property damage.
  • Operate site communication tools such as radios, phones, and/or computer-based reporting systems to coordinate responses and relay information to the appropriate contacts.
  • Assist with incident documentation and evidence preservation activities when directed, including maintaining chain of custody procedures for found items.
  • Support emergency procedures such as fire alarms, medical events, and/or facility evacuations by following post orders and directing people to designated areas.
  • Work in varying environments and conditions based on the assigned site, including indoor and outdoor patrols, standing and walking for extended periods, and interacting with the public.

Minimum Requirements:

  • Being comfortable using a computer or tablet is preferred.
  • Having a guard card and/or license is preferred.
  • Having customer service experience is preferred.
  • Having CPR and/or First Aid certification is preferred.
  • Be at least 18 years of age for unarmed roles; 21+ years of age for armed roles.
  • Possess a high school diploma or equivalent.
  • As a condition of employment, applicants will be subject to a background investigation in accordance with all federal, state, and local laws.
  • Allied Universal will consider qualified applications with criminal histories in a manner consistent with applicable laws.
  • As a condition of employment, applicants will be subject to a drug screen to the extent permitted by law.
  • Licensing requirements are subject to state and/or local laws and regulations and may be required prior to employment.
  • A valid driver's license will be required for driving positions only.
