Haskell's Design & Consulting Team unites architecture, engineering, and consulting professionals from across industries and geographies. While some clients are looking for turnkey design-build or engineer-procure-construct projects, The Design & Consulting Team serves clients who need specialized, fee-for-service design or consulting projects. These types of projects allow our team to form a strong rapport with client teams, marshaling them as they grow and helping them address industry and market challenges. The Design & Consulting Team serves four primary markets: Government, primarily the Department of Defense, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Air and Army National Guard, and the U.S. Naval Facilities Command; Industrial, focusing on food and beverage, consumer products, and utilities; Civil Infrastructure; and Healthcare.

We are seeking a motivated AI Engineering Design Intern to join our team and contribute to innovative projects at the intersection of artificial intelligence and engineering design. This role offers hands-on experience in applying AI-driven tools, algorithms, and workflows to solve real-world engineering challenges, from concept generation to optimization.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Assist in developing and testing AI models for engineering design applications (e.g., generative design, simulation optimization, CAD automation).
  • Support data collection, preprocessing, and annotation for AI training datasets.
  • Collaborate with engineers and designers to integrate AI solutions into existing design workflows.
  • Conduct research on emerging AI techniques relevant to engineering design.
  • Document processes, results, and recommendations for future improvements.

Education/Experience:

  • Pursuit of a degree in Architecture, Mechanical, Electrical, Civil, and/or Structural Engineering.

Specific Knowledge, Skills, License, Certifications:

  • Basic understanding of AI/ML concepts (e.g., supervised learning, neural networks).
  • Familiarity with engineering design tools (e.g., SolidWorks, AutoCAD, Fusion 360) is a plus.
  • Proficiency in Python or MATLAB; experience with AI libraries (TensorFlow, PyTorch, scikit-learn) preferred.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
  • Must have good personal habits
  • Work well with others
  • Be able to stay on task and complete work on schedule
  • Be able to work independently as well as on a team

Preferred Skills:

  • Knowledge of generative design principles or topology optimization.
  • Understanding of cloud-based AI platforms (AWS, Azure, ChatGPT, Co-Pilot and/or Gemini).

Environmental Factors and/or Physical Requirements:

While performing the duties of this job, this position is required to have ordinary ambulatory skills sufficient to visit other locations; and the ability to stand, walk, stoop, kneel, crouch, and manipulate (lift, carry, move) light to medium weights of 10-50 pounds. Requires good hand-eye coordination, and arm, hand and finger dexterity, including the ability to grasp, and visual acuity to use a keyboard, operate equipment and read application/form information. The associate frequently is required to sit, reach with hands and arms, talk, and hear.
