Position Description

The Department of Kinesiology & Sport Management in the College of Arts & Sciences at Texas Tech University invites applications for a full-time, 12-month Assistant Professor of Practice in Kinesiology position to begin September 1, 2026. Upon hire and each year after, the selected candidate must confirm that they are not teaching courses at any other institution while employed in this position at Texas Tech.

About the Department/School/Area

The Department of Kinesiology and Sport Management offers a B.S. in Kinesiology and an M.S. in Kinesiology for over 1,400 undergraduate and 40 graduate students, respectively. The department enrolls over 400 undergraduate students in the B.S. in Sport Management and over 100 master's degree students in the M.S. in Sport Management. It also offers a Ph.D. in Exercise Physiology. Its building includes six classrooms, a student computer lab, and faculty offices.

Major/Essential Functions

At Texas Tech University, the Professor of Practice title is used to recruit individuals with exceptional backgrounds and achievements in academic, business, government, or other professional practice. Primary responsibilities normally will be to teach in an area of expertise, mentor students in professional and career preparation, and liaise with professional contacts and entities on behalf of the department or program.

In line with TTU's strategic priorities to engage and empower a dynamic student body, enable innovative research and creative activities, and transform lives and communities through outreach and engaged scholarship, applicants should have experience working with a breadth of student populations at the undergraduate and/or graduate levels within individual or across the areas of teaching, research/creative activity, and service.

Faculty Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

  1. Master's degree in kinesiology, exercise science, or a closely related field.
  2. Two years minimum of online undergraduate teaching experience in kinesiology courses within the 36credit hour Degree Completion Program or equivalent undergraduate coursework.
  3. Undergraduate teaching experience in at least four kinesiology courses within the 36credit hour Degree Completion Program or equivalent undergraduate coursework.

Preferred Qualifications

Preferred Qualifications
Candidates who meet the required qualifications and possess the following are strongly encouraged to apply:

  1. Earned doctoral degree in kinesiology, exercise physiology, exercise science, or a closely related field.
  2. Experience developing asynchronous online undergraduate kinesiology courses, including authorship of three or more courses within the Degree Completion Program or comparable curriculum.
  3. Experience teaching five or more asynchronous online undergraduate courses aligned with the 36credit hour Degree Completion Program.
