Mission Contribution: The District Director of Retail plays a critical role in overseeing the operations of assigned retail sites to ensure profitability, operational excellence, and adherence to organizational standards. Summary: The District Director of Retail is responsible for driving top-line sales and net income performance across assigned retail sites. This role ensures operational efficiency, staff development, and adherence to company policies through effective leadership, coaching, and accountability. The District Director fosters a culture of continuous improvement, collaboration, and exceptional customer service to achieve organizational objectives.


Essential Functions:


  1. Responsible and accountable for achieving retail sales and net income goals across all assigned retail locations.
  2. Empowers and develops retail store managers, focusing on building skills and driving behaviors that lead to successful outcomes.
  3. Collaborate effectively with retail leadership to optimize production and sales floors, ensure adherence to policies, and maintain consistency of operations.
  4. Provide strategic guidance and high-level support to department leaders to ensure operational consistency and goal alignment.
  5. Motivates and inspires retail team members to exceed baseline goals while maintaining high expectations for performance.
  6. Ensure all team members deliver exceptional, world-class customer service at all times, contributing to the achievement of budgeted sales revenue and net income.
  7. Communicates effectively through strong verbal and written skills, fostering a collaborative, solution-oriented approach to challenges.
  8. Maintains exceptional organizational skills, managing diverse responsibilities and meeting deadlines efficiently.
  9. Ensures accountability by addressing performance issues promptly and equitably, minimizing any negative impact on business operations.
  10. Conduct regular visits to assigned retail locations to support and evaluate performance, providing actionable insights and feedback to improve outcomes.
  11. Oversee labor management across the assigned territory, ensuring efficiency and alignment with organizational goals.
  12. Manage multi-million-dollar budgets across multiple cost centers, demonstrating strong fiscal responsibility and budgeting expertise.
  13. Innovates by contributing new ideas, analyzing performance data, and taking calculated risks to enhance business performance.
  14. Exhibit leadership skills that reflect a balance of personal humility and professional determination, embodying Level V Leadership principles (as outlined in Good to Great by Jim Collins).
  15. Serve as a coach leader, guiding and supporting team members to achieve their fullest.
  16. Conduct interviews, make hiring decisions, and assist with onboarding: Evaluate candidates, select the best fit for the team, support a seamless transition for new hires, and engage in recruitment opportunities to attract and retain top talent.
  17. Conduct regular performance reviews for team members, providing constructive feedback, setting goals for improvement, and fostering professional development.
  18. Document and implement coaching/corrective actions: Identify performance issues, develop and execute improvement plans, ensure compliance with policies and procedures, and foster ongoing professional development to enhance overall team effectiveness.
  19. Ensure that all new staff are properly trained within established timelines, equipping them to meet production goals and contribute to organizational success.
  20. Ensure a safe and secure working environment by enforcing company safety standards, conducting regular safety audits, and addressing potential hazards promptly to minimize risks to team members and customers.
  21. Exhibit decision-making and behavior aligned with Goodwill's Core Values: Serve, Mentor, Include, Lead, and Excel.
  22. Participate in training sessions, meetings, and company-related events as required.
  23. Perform other duties as assigned by management.
  24. Adhere to all Goodwill policies and procedures.

Minimum Qualifications:


  • Proficiency in digital literacy, including experience with Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook) and company-specific software tools such as budgeting systems and HRIS platforms.
  • Strong written communication skills, with the ability to effectively create professional reports, business correspondence, and other written documentation.
  • Effective verbal communication skills, including the ability to present information clearly and respond to inquiries from supervisors, team members, and customers.
  • Basic mathematical proficiency, including the ability to perform operations such as addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division using whole numbers, fractions, and decimals.
  • Interpersonal skills to establish and maintain productive working relationships with supervisors, team members, and diverse internal and external customers.
  • Positive and professional attitude, fostering a collaborative and supportive work environment that enhances team morale and performance.


Required Certificates, Licenses, Registrations, Experience:


  • Minimum of 5 years of experience supervising diverse teams in a multi-unit retail environment and/or a production-focused business.
  • College degree in business, management, or a related field is preferred.
  • Ability to successfully complete and maintain first aid and CPR certification.
  • Must be able to successfully complete any assigned Goodwill training within the required timeframe upon employment.


Special Requirements:


  • Personal vehicle usage is required for this position, including a reliable vehicle, a valid driver's license, and the ability to provide proof of insurance for driving on company business.
  • An acceptable motor vehicle record, based on Goodwill guidelines, is required for driving a personal or company vehicle.
  • Ability to travel frequently to multiple Goodwill of Valleys locations, including occasional overnight stays as needed.
  • Schedule requires flexibility to be available after hours, weekends, and holidays as required to meet operational demands.
  • Must provide a cell phone for specified work responsibilities, including the use of a phone-based application for authentication.
  • A high-speed, reliable broadband internet connection is required for job functions.
  • Must successfully complete a state background investigation and drug screen.

  • Retail, office and/or hybrid environment.
  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee may occasionally be exposed to varying temperatures, such as heat or cold, and adverse weather conditions when traveling or working in non-office environments.
  • The noise level in the work environment is generally moderate but may occasionally increase depending on the location.
