Auria is looking to hire a
Director of User Interface / User Experience (UI/UX) to support the CTO group. This role is remote.
WHAT YOU CAN EXPECT TO DO:
- Define and continuously refine the company's UI/UX vision, standards, and design principles across all products, platforms, and programs.
- Lead the design of user interfaces and user experiences for new solutions and product enhancements, from concept through deployment.
- Partner with program managers, product owners, system architects, and engineers to ensure UI/UX decisions align with mission intent, operational workflows, and technical constraints.
- Conduct and guide user research activities, including stakeholder interviews, workflow analysis, persona development, and usability testing.
- Translate complex operational and technical requirements into intuitive, effective, and consistent user experiences.
- Develop and review UI/UX artifacts, including wireframes, high-fidelity mockups, interaction flows, and interactive prototypes.
- Establish and maintain reusable design patterns and contribute to an enterprise design system to ensure consistency and scalability.
- Review program-level UI/UX implementations and provide actionable feedback to ensure adherence to company standards and best practices.
- Support agile development teams by participating in planning sessions, design reviews, sprint reviews, and backlog refinement.
- Validate implemented UI/UX against user needs and design intent, identifying gaps and driving corrective actions as needed.
- Advise leadership and proposal teams on UI/UX strategy, differentiators, and risk areas for new business and IR&D efforts.
- Mentor and guide designers and engineers on UI/UX best practices, raising overall organizational design maturity.
- Balance near-term delivery demands with long-term UI/UX strategy, ensuring solutions are both operationally effective and extensible.
WHAT THE TEAM REQUIRES:
- Demonstrated experience leading UI/UX design for complex software systems, including mission-critical, data-dense, or operationally focused applications.
- Proven ability to define and enforce UI/UX standards, design systems, and interaction patterns across multiple products and teams.
- Strong background in user-centered design, including user research, journey mapping, personas, workflow analysis, and usability testing.
- Experience partnering with engineering, product, and program teams to translate operational needs, constraints, and intent into effective UI/UX solutions.
- Ability to design and review UI/UX artifacts such as wireframes, high-fidelity mockups, interactive prototypes, and design specifications.
- Comfort operating in an agile development environment, supporting iterative delivery and rapid feedback cycles. Strong communication skills, with the ability to guide programs, influence technical decisions, and articulate design rationale to stakeholders and leadership
WHAT THE TEAM PREFERS:
- Experience designing UI/UX for aerospace, defense, space, cybersecurity, or other highly technical or regulated domains.
- Familiarity with designing interfaces for command-and-control, analytics, planning, or decision-support systems.
- Experience establishing or evolving enterprise-level design systems and UI governance models.
- Exposure to human-systems integration (HSI), operational psychology, or designing for high-stress, time-critical user environments.
- Ability to mentor designers and elevate UI/UX maturity across an organization.
- Familiarity with modern front-end frameworks and an understanding of how UI/UX decisions impact system performance, maintainability, and scalability.
PAY TRANSPARENCY: The salary offered will be based on the selected candidate's qualifications - skills, education & experience - and the position level. $150,000 - $200,000k
