TITLE: Hourly Intern I

HOURLY RATE: $16.00 per hour

LOCATION: New York State Dept of Health /Center for Environmental Health/Bureau of Toxic Substance Assessment/School Lead in Drinking Water Program

ANTICIPATED START DATE AND END DATE: January 21, 2026 to May 1, 2026

APPROXIMATE NUMBER OF HOURS/WEEK: 8

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Must be a junior or senior majoring in Public Health at UAlbany. Must have completed at least 9 credits of public health major core coursework, including HSPH 201 and HSPH/EPI 231, prior to enrolling in HSPH 490. Available placements will be posted on the CIHS Hub. Please note, students will need to apply for a field placement during the Advanced Registration period in the semester prior to their proposed placement start date.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: Enrollment in the Public Health major at the University at Albany.

RESPONSIBILITIES: Compile data from state agencies and school reports; design a digital spreadsheet or database (e.g., using Excel) with fields for district name, building name, and initial sampling date(s) (month and year). Other variables may also be recorded. The tracking database may also include features such as automated updates where possible and visualization features (e.g., timelines or dashboards).

DETAILS OF EMPLOYMENT: In office at Corning Tower, Empire State Plaza, Albany, NY 12237. May work remotely up to 50% of time after a few weeks.

Hourly, grant funded position. Compliance with funding requirements such as time and effort reporting, grant deliverables, and contract deliverables, is required.

Qualified candidates must be either an MPH or an MS Epidemiology student at SUNY Albany's College of Integrated Health Sciences; AND must have completed at least 24 credits of coursework toward their degree including at least four of the core courses; AND must have maintained a GPA of 3.0 or better AND are unable to participate in an internship if on academic probation.

Valid and unrestricted authorization to work in the U.S. is required. Visa sponsorship is not available for this position.

The selected candidate must reside within a reasonable commuting distance of the official work location specified in the job posting and must also be located in or willing to relocate to one of the following states: New York, New Jersey, Connecticut, Vermont, or Massachusetts, prior to hire.
