Overview

There's never been a better time to join the shipbuilding industry. As demand for cutting-edge naval technology grows, General Dynamics Electric Boat is at the forefront-designing, building, and maintaining the most advanced submarines in the world. Our work is mission-critical, supporting the U.S. Navy and strengthening national security.

About Department 495 - Hull Planning Yard Engineering

D495 is a multi-disciplined engineering department (fluids, mechanical, structural, and components engineering) providing modernization and engineering support for in-service submarines in the US Navy including OHIO, VIRGINIA, and SEAWOLF Classes in all non-reactor plant areas of the ship. D495 provides direct support to the commissioned submarine fleet on a daily basis through various means. These include, but are not limited to, evaluation of existing non-conformances and development of new capabilities, supporting selection and procurement of replacement material and equipment, and providing expertise for problem resolution.

Role Overview

The D495 Systems Engineer will be responsible for various activities required to maintain and enhance the current submarine fleet. Specific responsibilities include providing technical guidance in response to emergent requests, reviewing technical drawings and developing supporting engineering calculations, and independently managing their projects' schedules. Additionally, this position offers unique opportunities for development and leadership roles in project work as well as other specialized areas.
