The Analytical Scientist position relates to a wide range of technical skill functions and many non-technical company functions. It is an intermediate development role where the individual possesses an intermediate understanding of chemical and physical laboratory analysis on food products and provides support to product and packaging development scientists. What You Do.



  • Performs routine analytical assays involving moisture analyzer, Colorimeter, NIR, Texture Analyzer, UV/VIS, Rheometer, Viscometer, Proximity Analysis, pH, MilkoScan, Image Analysis, calcium and protein fractionation, and other laboratory equipment.
  • Leads work on the development and validation of methods for analysis of food products. Conducts literature reviews to support validation work. Brings forward recommendations for opportunities to expand internal test offerings (i.e., cost savings, new needs) and carries out development of those options.
  • Expected to work with cross-functional teams and develop relationships with external analytical laboratories, suppliers, and vendors.
  • Determines if required testing fits with internal or external capabilities. Responsible for sending samples out for external analysis and results, circulating the results to the appropriate parties paired with relevant conclusions, and approving of relevant invoices.
  • Tracks lab resources, sample submissions, and other relevant info in order to ensure proper use of internal and external capabilities and identifies opportunities for improvement.
  • Maintains knowledge of external lab capabilities, and industry advancements and competencies to recommend best resources to support external testing when needed. Supports Supplier Quality and Procurement in external lab audits and supplier performance grades and evaluations.
  • Applies Best Laboratory Practices in the analysis of samples.
  • Applies Measurement System Analysis (MSA) to laboratory and instrument data collection and interpretation.
  • Responsible for the collection, interpretation, evaluation, statistical analysis and writing of technical reports.
  • Prepares chemical solutions and maintains flavor library. Maintains appropriate inventory logging and SDS documentation as needed within current systems.
  • Responsible for writing, changing, and updating SOPs, laboratory, and instrument methods
  • Responsible for tracking, scheduling, and executing all instruments' calibration periodically.
  • Helps familiarize and train other R&D partners in the conduct of analytical procedures and the running of scientific equipment.
  • Other duties may be assigned.
  • You may be expected to travel for this position, about 5-10% or less.


Your Education and Experience.



  • Bachelor of Science degree (BS) in Chemistry or equivalent with three plus years of relevant experience; or a Master's degree (MS) in Chemistry or equivalent.
  • Must be a quick learner, flexible and able to multi-task dependent on the types of work at hand.
  • Strong computer skills are necessary for this position, including MS Office Suite as well as knowledge/experience in statistical packages (Excel Data Analysis, Minitab, JMP, other).
