About the Role

The Scrum Master is accountable for managing day-to-day aspects of Lean-Agile processes for Symetra teams. The Scrum master may lead one or more agile teams and work with cross-functional teams. These teams support initiatives that are critical to Symetra's business functions. The Scrum Master works closely with the Product Owner to understand backlog priorities, goals, and scope, and facilitates team discussions to deliver agreed upon outcomes. The Scrum Master is an Agile champion, driving the team through agile events such as sprint planning, daily scrum, sprint reviews, retrospectives, and demos. They advocate changes to the team process, to ensure continued improvements in software quality and delivery. This role operates in a hybrid agile environment, requiring flexibility in applying agile practices while adhering to established enterprise processes, governance, and vendor delivery models. The Scrum Master adapts agile techniques as needed to align with non-agile dependencies and external partners.

What you will do



  • Ensure agile practices and required enterprise delivery processes are followed.
  • Assist the team in self-organization, fosters impediment resolution.
  • Hold team accountable for their committed deliverables.
  • Help team with estimation, provides dashboards and metrics to understand how the team is performing (cumulative flow diagrams, velocity etc.).
  • Build a safe trusting team environment.
  • Facilitate decision making and conflict resolution.
  • Communicates timelines and dependencies.
  • Help teams adapt agile practices to fit hybrid delivery constraints.
  • Understand software delivery and governance processes.
  • Contribute to and champions process improvements in Agile practices.
  • Identifies and follows through on improvement items from retrospectives.
  • Apply agile principles pragmatically within a hybrid delivery framework.
  • Ensure alignment with Symetra delivery standards, governance checkpoints, and compliance requirements.
  • Support integration of agile team outputs into broader program or waterfall-based plans.
  • Facilitate PI planning.

Compensation

Salary Range:$96,700 - $161,200 plus eligibility for annual bonus programs

Who you are



  • College degree or equivalent work experience.
  • Professional certifications or designations appropriate and relevant for this role.
  • 5-8 years of cumulative, relevant experience.
  • Experienced professional with considerable skills and knowledge for the role.
  • Possesses analytic, technical, and problem-solving skills and abilities.
  • Uses best practices and knowledge of internal or external business issues to improve products or services.
  • Proficient in ADO and able to build metrics and dashboards.
  • High school diploma required.
