Job Summary


Our newly UCSF Dentistry clinic is a high-volume, multi-specialty dental clinic located in the city of San Mateo. This flagship practice is designed with a strong emphasis on technology, integrated care, and an exceptional patient experience.

Under the supervision of the clinic supervisor, the Registered Dental Assistant is responsible for assisting the dentist provider in the direct provision of primary care dental services to patients. The incumbent prepares operatory for patient treatment, exposes and develops dental radiographs and performs independent procedures as delegated and directed by the provider. Additionally, the RDA maintains dental equipment and work areas in compliance with UCSF policies and procedures relative to infection control and safety issues; maintains adequate operatory supplies and assists with various clinical and administrative functions as appropriate.


The final salary and offer components are subject to additional approvals based on UC policy.

Your placement within the salary range is dependent on a number of factors including your work experience and internal equity within this position classification at UCSF. For positions that are represented by a labor union, placement within the salary range will be guided by the rules in the collective bargaining agreement.

The salary range for this position is $31.53 - $39.63 (Hourly Rate).

We provide comprehensive oral health care services with over 120,000 patient visits per year. We offer a four-year DDS program as well as a two-year program for international dentists that culminates in the DDS degree. We have numerous specialty residencies, PhD and Master's degree programs in Oral and Craniofacial Sciences, a combined DDS-PhD program, and a combined PhD-dental specialty training program. Other graduate programs include Craniofacial and Mesenchymal Biology and Bioengineering, and a DDS/MBA program. The School is one of the preeminent oral and craniofacial research enterprises in the world, ranking number one in National Institute of Health funding for 25 consecutive years.

Required Qualifications


  • Possession of the legal requirements to practice as a Registered Dental Assistant as determined by the California Board of Dental Examiners; one year of experience; completion of an on-the-job or a formal course in methods and techniques of conducting job training; or an equivalent combination of education and experience; and knowledges and abilities essential to the successful performance of the duties assigned to the position.
  • High school diploma or GED
  • Completion of a program in dental assistance
  • Current RDA license
  • Current Dental X-ray certification
  • Current CPR/BLS certification
  • Knowledge and abilities essential to the successful performance of the duties assigned to the position.
  • Familiar with infection control policies and procedures; HIPPA
  • Knowledge of maintenance and operation of dental equipment and instruments.
  • Familiarity with dental terminology, materials, medication used during dental procedures
  • Sound knowledge of various periodontic procedures and practices
  • Good hand to eye coordination and manual dexterity
  • Demonstrated excellence in reliability and attendance.
  • Able to multi-task in fast paced environment
  • Excellent Interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work efficiently in a busy environment
  • Basic computer skills.
  • Experience in general dentistry or specialties (pros, endo, pedo, ortho)
  • Experience taking x-rays
  • Excellent communication and patient-care abilities

Preferred Qualifications


  • Knowledge of Epic

License/Certification
