Job Summary
Our newly UCSF Dentistry clinic is a high-volume, multi-specialty dental clinic located in the city of San Mateo. This flagship practice is designed with a strong emphasis on technology, integrated care, and an exceptional patient experience.
The Registered Dental Hygienist provides preventive oral care, performs patient assessments, and educates patients on proper dental hygiene techniques. Responsibilities include conducting oral health screenings, taking digital X-rays, cleaning and polishing teeth, applying sealants and fluoride, and assisting the dentist with diagnostic and therapeutic procedures. The RDH ensures high-quality patient care, maintains infection-control standards, and contributes to a positive, efficient dental practice environment
The final salary and offer components are subject to additional approvals based on UC policy. Your placement within the salary range is dependent on a number of factors including your work experience and internal equity within this position classification at UCSF. For positions that are represented by a labor union, placement within the salary range will be guided by the rules in the collective bargaining agreement. The salary range for this position is $67.99 - $84.78 (Hourly Rate). We provide comprehensive oral health care services with over 120,000 patient visits per year. We offer a four-year DDS program as well as a two-year program for international dentists that culminates in the DDS degree. We have numerous specialty residencies, PhD and Master's degree programs in Oral and Craniofacial Sciences, a combined DDS-PhD program, and a combined PhD-dental specialty training program. Other graduate programs include Craniofacial and Mesenchymal Biology and Bioengineering, and a DDS/MBA program. The School is one of the preeminent oral and craniofacial research enterprises in the world, ranking number one in National Institute of Health funding for 25 consecutive years.
Required Qualifications
- Current Registered Dental Hygienist & California x-ray safety license
- Current BLS/CPR certification
- Local anesthesia certification/permit
- Completed Nitrous Oxide course
- One year experience as RDH; or an equivalent combination of education and experience
- Possession of the legal requirements to practice as a Dental Hygienist as determined by the California Board of Dental Examiners; and knowledge and abilities essential to the successful performance of the duties assigned to the position.
- Knowledge of high clinical standards in dental assisting practices and demonstrated ability to implement these standards
- Skilled in patient assessment, treatment planning, and periodontal instrumentation
- Knowledge of dental instruments and sterilization methods; and maintenance and operation of dental equipment and instruments
- Skilled in placing sealants, fluoride, and other preventive treatments
- Ability to multi-task in a fast paced environment and work efficiently in a busy environment
- Skilled in digital radiography, intraoral scanning (preferred), anesthetic administration
- Experience with prophylaxis and periodontal maintenance
- Ability to perform oral cancer screenings and comprehensive periodontal charting
- Knowledge of infection-control protocols and OSHA/HIPAA regulations
- Familiarity with dental practice management and charting software (e.g., Dentrix, Eaglesoft, Open Dental)
- Excellent patient communication and rapport-building abilities
- Ability to explain procedures and treatment plans clearly and compassionately
- Strong teamwork skills; able to collaborate effectively with dentists and support staff
- Cultural awareness and sensitivity
- Strong attention to detail and high clinical accuracy
- Ability to manage time efficiently and maintain schedule flow
- Reliable, punctual, and committed to maintaining a positive clinic environment
- Adaptability to changing patient needs or workflow adjustments
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with dental specialties (Oral Surgery, perio, pediatrics, endo, hospital dentistry)
License/Certification
- Current Registered Dental Hygienist & California x-ray safety license;
