Fairfax County's Department of Information Technology is seeking a visionary and results driven Director of Enterprise Services & Performance Engineering to serve as a cornerstone of our technology leadership team. This executive role will report directly to the CTO and is critical to integrating strategy, operations, and governance into a unified framework that ensures our technology investments deliver maximum public value. As the Director of Enterprise Services & Performance Engineering, you will be responsible for:

  • Developing and implementing enterprise-wide metrics, KPIs, and dashboards to provide clear visibility into IT effectiveness, project and program performance, and strategic alignment.
  • Providing executive oversight and leadership in areas such as engineering & operations enterprise architecture, enterprise document services, and project & program management to ensure cost-effective and strategic service delivery.
  • Partnering and working collaboratively with other Chief Directors such as Customer Experience and Infrastructure.
  • Establishing a robust controls framework to ensure compliance with all laws, regulations, and internal policies, mitigating risk and strengthening organizational accountability.
  • Supervising and mentoring a team of directors, managers, and multidisciplinary professionals, fostering a culture of technical excellence, continuous improvement, and professional growth.
  • Participating in strategic planning, developing budgets, and representing the department on internal and external committees.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Employment Standards

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Any combination of education, experience, and training equivalent to the following:

Possession of a bachelor's degree in computer science, information technology, business or public administration, or closely related field; plus seven years of progressively responsible experience in applying and/or managing information technology systems and resources to meet the needs of a government or business organization.

NECESSARY SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
The appointee is required to complete a criminal background and credit check to the satisfaction of the employer.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Advanced certifications in related engineering, technical, or operational disciplines.
  • Demonstrated experience in a senior IT leadership role within a large public sector, private sector, or highly regulated environment.
  • Proven hands-on experience with enterprise-grade performance management and data visualization tools (e.g., Power BI, Tableau, ServiceNow Performance Analytics).
  • A track record of successfully managing a technology portfolio.
  • Extensive experience in designing and implementing IT governance, risk, and compliance (GRC) frameworks from the ground up.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Work is generally sedentary, performed in a normal office environment. All duties are performed with or without reasonable accommodation.
