The Benefits Liaison provides backup coverage and operational support for the administration, compliance, and ongoing management of the organization's health and welfare benefit programs. This role serves as a knowledgeable resource to the benefits team, supports key projects and system activities, and assists with employee and retiree benefit needs to ensure continuity of service and compliance.

As a Benefits Liaison, you will...

  • Provide backup support for the administration of health and welfare benefit programs, including medical, dental, vision, life, disability, FSA, and retiree benefits.
  • Assist with regulatory compliance activities, including ACA reporting support, Form 5500 preparation, audits, disclosures, and required plan documentation.
  • Support major benefits initiatives such as open enrollment, dependent audits, HRIS testing, and system updates.
  • Act as backup functional support for HRIS benefits processes, including testing, documentation, and issue resolution.
  • Assist with vendor coordination and help resolve escalated employee and retiree benefit inquiries as needed.
  • Provide backup coverage for retiree benefit administration, consultations, phone lines, and data entry during peak periods or staff absences.
  • Help maintain benefit documentation, standard operating procedures, and intranet content.
  • Support completion and analysis of benefits-related surveys and reporting.
  • Provide knowledge sharing, training, and ad hoc guidance to team members to support day-to-day operations.
  • Assist with benefits communications and employee education sessions as needed.

Qualifications

You meet our minimum qualifications for the job if you...

  • Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or related field, or equivalent experience.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in health and welfare benefits administration.
  • Working knowledge of benefits compliance and administration processes.
  • Experience supporting HRIS systems and benefits projects preferred.
  • Strong organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills.
  • Hold U.S. citizenship or permanent resident status, as required to access APL facilities and networks, subject to applicable laws.

You'll go above and beyond our minimum requirements if you...

  • CEBS designation, Certificate in Benefit Administration or Certificate in Health and Welfare
    Plans.

  • Have a Master's degree.
  • Have a SHRM certification, SPHR, PHR, etc.
  • Have Workday experience.

The referenced pay range is based on JHU APL's good faith belief at the time of posting. Actual compensation may vary based on factors such as geographic location, work experience, market conditions, education/training and skill level with consideration for internal parity. For salaried employees scheduled to work less than 40 hours per week, annual salary will be prorated based on the number of hours worked. APL may offer bonuses or other forms of compensation per internal policy and/or contractual designation. Additional compensation may be provided in the form of a sign-on bonus, relocation benefits, locality allowance or discretionary payments for exceptional performance. APL provides eligible staff with a comprehensive benefits package including retirement plans, paid time off, medical, dental, vision, life insurance, short-term disability, long-term disability, flexible spending accounts, education assistance, and training and development. Applications are accepted on a rolling basis.
