The Office of University Interdisciplinary Programs builds on successful interdisciplinary efforts that started as part of NC State's previous strategic plan. The office also brings key Office of the Executive Vice Chancellor and Provost units and initiatives that cross disciplinary boundaries together in one place. It fosters and supports partnerships with university-level interdisciplinary programs. The office's work is closely aligned with Wolfpack 2030: Powering the Extraordinary, NC State's 2021-2030 Strategic Plan, and will advance all three pillars of the university's land-grant mission: excellent teaching, research and engagement.
This is a new position which will serve as the lead for facilitating and synergizing communication efforts across the Office of University Interdisciplinary Programs (
OUIP) and the units which report to it. Currently, OUIP's communications needs are handled by the Provost's Office Communications team and by team members within each unit; this position aims to bridge the gap between these organizational structures and provide our interdisciplinary team with the ability to more effectively create and share the stories of events, programs, faculty, staff and students. This position will also have the opportunity to play a role in amplifying new
OUIP-level efforts, such as art-science efforts at NC State and Think and Do Tanks.
Responsibilities:
The Interdisciplinary Communication Coordinator will be responsible for developing strategies for easing the ability of communications staff within units to create standard approaches and branding for units to feature their work, develop mechanisms for individual units to easily contribute to a common newsletter and find mechanisms to feature key events and tell stories of the novel ways NC State is facilitating interdisciplinary scholarship, teaching, and problem solving. There is the opportunity to also incorporate data driven storytelling and visualization techniques in this work, as well as to develop novel communication approaches. The Coordinator will convene the comms team within
OUIP and work closely with, and report to, the Senior Vice Provost of University Interdisciplinary Programs working closely with the Provost's Office Communications team..
Opportunities:
NC State is a leader in Public Science and, more generally, in developing novel approaches for engaging audiences. This Coordinator will be able to engage, benefit from and share with that community of scholars and practitioners.
Example Products: The Coordinator will help to develop
OUIP-level newsletters and "spotlight" stories that highlight faculty, staff and students who are playing great roles as interdisciplinary leaders. In addition, they will be able to work to ease the ability of the university to tell data-driven (and -visualized) stories about the interdisciplinarity at NC State. The details of the products this person helps to produce will ultimately represent the synergy between the needs and opportunities in
OUIP and their specific skillsets.
