Job Description

The Naval Nuclear Laboratory is looking for dedicated individuals to join our team as entry-level Laborers. This position will be located at the Naval Reactors Facility (NRF) west of Idaho Falls, ID, and offers the opportunity to work in a dynamic and challenging environment. As a Laborer, you will provide essential support to various NRF organizations, with a primary focus on janitorial duties and other general labor responsibilities.



Key Responsibilities:



  • Perform janitorial tasks including vacuuming, dusting, trash removal, and restroom cleaning.
  • Assist with snow removal, lawn care, and furniture moves.
  • Support radiological-controlled work and the handling of hazardous materials.
  • Participate in D&D (Decontamination and Demolition) activities.
  • Perform tasks that may require standing and walking for extended periods.



Job Requirements:



  • Ability to lift over 40 lbs and climb ladders
  • Capable of operating power tools such as a Sawzall, porta-band, grinder, and drill motor
  • Willing to work in confined spaces and at heights greater than 4 feet
  • Comfortable operating small tractors and performing physical tasks in inclement weather conditions
  • Must be willing to work shift work, including evenings, weekends, and holidays as required
  • Ability to be trained and qualify as a Contamination Worker for radiological work, which includes passing a written and practical examination

Required Combination of Knowledge and Skill

  • High school diploma or equivalent

Preferred Skills

  • Experience with general construction, landscaping, or industrial labor
  • Familiarity with safety protocols and use of personal protective equipment (PPE)
  • Basic mechanical skills or experience operating power tools and small machinery
  • Previous experience in a hazardous or radiological work environment is a plus
  • Ability to handle and properly dispose of hazardous materials
  • Experience working in challenging weather conditions
  • Strong communication skills and ability to follow detailed instructions
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team

Pay Range

$21.23 hourly

Jobs categorized as subject to a collective bargaining agreement will adhere to the pay rates, wage increases, progression schedules, and other parameters identified and negotiated in said agreements. Wages and other compensation details are subject to change based negotiated changes to the collective bargaining agreements.

The Naval Nuclear Laboratory is operated for the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) by Fluor Marine Propulsion, LLC (FMP), a wholly owned subsidiary of Fluor Corporation. Naval Nuclear Laboratory personnel are FMP employees who work at four DOE facilities: Bettis Atomic Power Laboratory, Knolls Atomic Power Laboratory, Kenneth A. Kesselring Site, and Naval Reactors Facility, and at the U.S. Department of Defense-owned Nuclear Power Training Unit-Charleston. FMP employees also have an established presence at numerous shipyards and vendor locations. For nearly 70 years, the Naval Nuclear Laboratory has developed advanced nuclear propulsion technology, provided technical support, and trained world-class nuclear operators to ensure the safe and reliable operation of our nation's submarine and aircraft carrier Fleets. The Naval Nuclear Laboratory is a national asset solely dedicated to the Naval Nuclear Propulsion Program.
