The Senior Distribution Engineer plays a critical role in the strategic planning and design of distribution systems, ensuring reliable and efficient power delivery. This individual analyzes system needs, assesses constraints, and identifies optimal solutions, often collaborating with internal and external stakeholders to implement these solutions. This role requires a deep understanding of distribution systems, including voltage levels typically 34.5K and below, as well as the ability to balance economic, environmental, social, and regulatory considerations. The Senior Distribution Engineer contributes to the development of sustainable power solutions within the energy and utility sector, ensuring the continued success of the company's distribution operations.

This role is specifically dedicated to supporting the electrical distribution system at WrightPatterson Air Force Base (WPAFB). The Senior Distribution Engineer will serve as the primary technical lead for all engineering, planning, maintenance, and operational activities at the base, ensuring the safe, reliable, and resilient delivery of power across its critical infrastructure.

This position requires the selected candidate to reside within a maximum 60minute commute of WrightPatterson Air Force Base (WPAFB) to ensure timely support for emergency response needs.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor of Science Degree in Electrical Engineering

  • 5-10 years experience in engineering or operations

  • English language required

  • Background Investigation by AES and DCSA required

  • Professional Engineering License preferred or Subject-Matter-Expert

Responsibilities:

  • Directs, coordinates, and executes technical investigations, engineering economics studies, operating studies, designs, tests, long range plans, forecasts, cost estimates, computations, inspections, inventories, and reports as may be required for the completion of assignments

  • Responsible for planning all activities to ensure the safe, reliable and economic operation of the Company's electric transmission and distribution system located at WPAFB.

  • Manage all maintenance activities at WPAFB.

  • Manage all engineering functions for WPAFB.

  • Directs AES management and union employees working at WPAFB.

  • Manage response and restoration efforts due to equipment failures at WPAFB.

  • Develop annual 5-year capital budget plan for WPAFB including resiliency initiatives.

  • Supplier/vendor management for capital and O&M projects

  • Coordinate planned outages with base personnel and AES Ohio including developing switching plans for planned and forced outages.

  • Manage customer interface with WPAFB for new constructions and or equipment removal.

  • Counsels' customer regarding Company technical and commercial policies and the application of designs and equipment of high complexity.

  • Keeps informed on the latest developments and techniques pertaining to electrical overhead and underground distribution systems.

  • Serves as a professional representative of the Company, as assigned

Desired Qualifications:

  • Utility and/or Power Systems experience.

  • Team player Strong analytical skills, leadership, and communication skills Proficient presentation skills, diplomacy and facilitation skills covering large and small group forums ranging from technical to non-technical audiences.

  • Highly motivated self-starter with the ability and willingness to take initiative

  • Strong understanding of electrical engineering concepts such as reliability, load flow, stability, short circuit, voltage regulation, transients, power factor, losses, etc.
