The Environmental Services Technician is responsible for performing a variety of cleaning and sanitation tasks throughout the healthcare facility to ensure compliance with infection control standards and regulatory requirements. What You'll Do
Environmental Cleaning
- Clean and sanitize patient rooms, common areas, restrooms, offices, and hallways
- Follow infection-control guidelines and safety procedures
- Maintain cleanliness of EVS equipment, carts, and supply areas
Waste Collection & Disposal
- Collect and dispose of all waste types (general, recyclable, biohazard, pharmaceutical)
- Transport waste to designated disposal/collection areas
- Ensure proper waste segregation and container labeling
Hazardous & Biohazardous Waste Handling
- Safely handle and dispose of medical, hazardous, and infectious waste
- Follow OSHA and hospital infection-control standards
- Use required PPE (gloves, gowns, masks)
Floor Care & Deep Cleaning
- Perform routine and deep cleaning of floors
- Conduct carpet cleaning, grout cleaning, and high-dusting
- Assist with seasonal, post-construction, or specialized cleaning projects
Equipment Transport & Support
- Operate carts, transport equipment, and assist with room turnovers as needed
- Maintain cleanliness of trash bins, utility rooms, and waste storage areas
Safety, Reporting & Collaboration
- Report unsafe conditions or equipment issues
- Maintain accurate waste tracking documentation
- Work closely with EVS teammates and communicate concerns to supervisors
Minimum Qualifications
- No education required
- No prior experience required-training provided
Preferred Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Previous environmental services, housekeeping, floor care, or janitorial experience
- Experience following written and verbal instructions
- Customer service or publicfacing experience
- OSHA/safety training (plus, not required)
Skills & Abilities
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs and move heavy bags/equipment
- Strong attention to detail
- Ability to work independently and on a team
- Good communication skills
- Basic understanding of infection control preferred
Physical & Working Conditions
- Prolonged standing, walking, bending, kneeling, reaching, and twisting
- Lifting up to 50 lbs regularly
- Possible exposure to odors, noise, chemicals, and biohazardous materials
- Evening shifts; may include weekends and holidays
- PPE required and provided
