JOB DESCRIPTION AND POSITION REQUIREMENTS Penn State is searching for a full time Mail Clerk Courier - College of Medicine - Grade 6 to join the team. Duties include:Shift: Monday through Friday 8:00am to 4:30pm Days Off: Saturday and Sunday Location: College of Medicine, Hershey, PA The following description covers the typical duties to be performed and/or assigned: 1. Receive incoming U.S. Mail; sort and case according to individual or department address. 2. Directorize nixie mail and mail received for newly admitted or discharged patients. 3. Operate postage metering machine to affix proper amount of postage to outgoing U.S. Mail, both foreign and domestic and special service mail; determine from postal regulations proper postage rates for various types and classes of outgoing U.S. Mail including Parcel Post; determine best and cheapest way to send mail and if parcels should be sent United Parcel Service. 4. Calculate total charge for mail metered and enter beginning and ending postage meter readings on IBM Metered Mail card. 5. Complete forms necessary for outgoing registered, certified or insured mail. 6. Sell postage and mailing supplies and provide postal information at postal service window. 7. Receive cash for personal "postage due" mail. 8. Complete and/or assist individuals in forms preparation for registered, certified or insured mail and return receipts for personal mail. 9. Prepare bulk mailings for delivery to the U.S. Post Office; complete forms necessary to accompany bulk mailings; maintain record of bulk mailings for billing purposes and maintain record of bulk mailing account balance and reconcile with the U.S. Post Office on a monthly basis. 10. Receive and process "Postage Due" mail determining proper destination for mail and charge to be made to recipient; enter charge on "Postage Due Charge Card" on a daily basis; total daily charges monthly and submit cards for inclusion in monthly billing process; maintain Postage Due Account balance and reconcile with the U.S. Post Office on a monthly basis. 11. Receive, record and deliver all registered, certified and insured incoming U.S. Mail. 12. Receive interdepartmental mail from Teaching Hospital and College; directorize and sort into proper mailboxes for distribution throughout the Medical Center. 13. Receive and dispatch U.S. and Interdepartmental mail to various sections of Teaching Hospital and College through pneumatic tube system. 14. Receive cash and completed charge cards for personal work on copying machine in Mail Room. 15. Maintain updated directory of patients from information received from Hospital Admissions; forward U.S. Mail for discharged patients. 16. Perform minor service, corrections, repairs on copy machine in Mail Room. 17. Answer telephone, provide information or refer to proper person. 18. Forward U.S. Mail for Graduated Medical Students, former Graduate Students, Nursing Students and Residents. 19. Drive University vehicle to and from U.S. Post Office, to pickup and deliver U.S. mail and purchase stamps, post cards, etc.; reconcile stamps, post cards, etc. received for money paid; also, drive to outlying campus locations for pickup and delivery of U.S. and interdepartmental mail as required. Job Requirements: Requires the use of commercial English, grammar and arithmetic such as addition, subtraction, multiplication and division, including decimals and fractions; simple use of formulas, charts, tables, drawings, specifications, schedules, wiring diagrams, together with the use of adjustable measuring instruments, graduates and the like requiring interpretation in their various applications; or the posting, preparation, interpretation, use and checking of reports, forms, records and comparable data. Over 15 and up to 18 months of effective experience. QUALIFICATIONSMINIMUM WORK EXPERIENCE 15 to 18 months of effective experienceREQUIRED CERTIFICATIONS BACKGROUND CHECKS/CLEARANCES This position requires the following clearances in addition to applicable background checks: PA State Police Criminal Background Check, PA Child Abuse History Clearance Form, and Federal (FBI) Fingerprint Criminal Background Check. This position requires that you operate a motor vehicle as a part of your job duties. A valid driver's license and successful completion of a motor vehicle records check will be required in addition to standard background checks.
