Job Summary

Glendale Community College is seeking a full-time faculty member to support the teacher education associate and bachelor's degree programs. The successful candidate will assist with the instruction and facilitation of upper- and lower-division teacher education courses, including methods courses, mild/moderate special education courses, professional seminars, classroom management, and foundational education and special education courses.

Responsibilities include:
  • Preparing and teaching assigned classes (online and hybrid) in accordance with syllabus guidelines.
  • Developing curriculum, using innovative teaching methodologies, and staying current on industry trends and advancements in education, including regular and substantive interaction strategies and course accessibility.
  • Overseeing student teachers and collaborating with mentor teachers, principals, and other stakeholders.
  • Coordinating practicum experiences and working with staff to provide support for pre-service and student teachers.
  • Maintaining appropriate records, assigning earned grades, reporting required data to the department, and completing all necessary departmental assessment documentation.

Essential Functions
  • Teach undergraduate courses (100-400 level) in elementary education and special education that meet course load requirements.
  • Maintains compliance with all college policies and program accreditation/licensure requirements including the Arizona Department of Education Teacher Certification Requirements, Title II Reports, District Program Reviews.
  • Develops and maintains relationships with professional contacts to support field experience, student teaching, project collaborations, and student mentoring.
  • Fosters and promotes a sense of belonging and collegiality among faculty, students, and staff.
  • Engage students within the classroom and online learning environment that fosters student motivation and success.
  • Incorporate Arizona State Academic and Teaching standards (InTASC), to support course objectives, activities, lectures, and learning outcomes.
  • Assist students outside classroom hours and actively mentor students.
  • Assess student performance using research-based and college-approved assessment practices.
  • Organize and oversee visits with student teachers assigned to complete practicum hours and student teaching in K-12 schools.
  • Assist with concerns, difficulties and challenges teacher candidates may encounter while completing practicum hours in K-12 schools.
  • Assist with the development and design of elementary education and special education curriculum and courses for in-person, hybrid, and online classes.
  • Organize professional development activities that promote the teaching profession for all education students.
  • Assist college administration in developing internal and external communities that promote the College's academic programs/majors.
  • Participation in campus or district committees


Minimum Qualifications

A graduate degree is required. A faculty may qualify with any of the following:
  • Master's degree or higher in the teaching field OR
  • Master's degree or higher in any field with 18 graduate credit hours

Desired Qualifications

A. Five or more years' recent (within last five years) experience teaching K-12 students in a school setting

B. Prior experience in school leadership or in the supervision/evaluation of teachers (vice principal, principal, instructional coach, department chair, etc.)

C. Experience in developing and maintaining collaborative relationships with partnering school sites, colleagues, faculty, and/or administration.

D. Evidence of hybrid instruction that incorporates current teaching methodologies and/or technologies.

E. The ability to work with a wide range of students using a variety of adult learning methods in modalities such as online, hybrid and in-person.

F. Evidence of curriculum design and/or instructional efforts aligning with learning outcomes.

G. Experience mentoring and/or training novice teachers in K-12 and special education settings.
