Job Summary

THIS POSITION BEGINS AUGUST 2026.

Teach the full range of mathematics courses, from Basic Arithmetic through Differential Equations, using effective and innovative instructional strategies. Incorporate appropriate technology and active learning methods to promote student engagement and success.

Instruction may be delivered in a variety of modalities, including in-person, hybrid, and virtual (both synchronous and asynchronous) formats. Faculty are expected to ensure that all instructional materials meet accessibility standards and to remain current with emerging technologies, including the effective and ethical use of artificial intelligence in instruction.

Active participation in department, college, and district committees and initiatives, along with ongoing professional development, is required to support continuous improvement in teaching and learning.

Essential Functions

Instruction and Course Management:
Provide instruction in mathematics courses using a variety of modalities, including in-person, hybrid, and virtual (synchronous and asynchronous). Manage courses through the college's approved learning management system (currently Canvas). Prepare and maintain course materials, syllabi, and outlines in alignment with department and college standards. Ensure all instructional materials meet current accessibility requirements. Evaluate student performance through the design and grading of appropriate assessments.

Service:
Participate actively in the academic life of the department, college, and district by serving on committees and contributing to initiatives both in-person and virtually. Maintain weekly academic support hours for students as per the Residential Faculty Agreement.

Professional Development:
Maintain and enhance knowledge of mathematics content, instructional methods, and relevant technologies. Pursue ongoing professional growth through participation in conferences, courses, seminars, workshops, and other opportunities that support effective teaching and learning. Stay informed about accessibility standards and the ethical, effective use of artificial intelligence in instruction.

Minimum Qualifications

A Master's degree or higher in one of the following fields: Mathematics, Applied Mathematics, Statistics, Actuarial Science, Operations Research, Decision Sciences, Mathematics Education, Secondary Education with emphasis in Mathematics, Curriculum and Instruction with Emphasis in Mathematics, Engineering, Computer Science, Physics

OR

A Master's degree or higher in any field with 18 graduate credit hours in courses with these keywords: Mathematics, probability, statistics, applied mathematics, actuarial science, operations research, decision sciences, mathematics education, physics, engineering, or computer science courses with significant mathematical content.

Desired Qualifications

A. Teaching experience using a variety of instructional methods, modalities, and levels (in-person, hybrid, virtual synchronous, and asynchronous). List specific courses taught and the modality taught as instructor of record.

B. College-level teaching experience sufficient to teach the range of mathematics courses from Arithmetic through Differential Equations. List specific courses taught and the number of times taught as instructor of record.

C. Use and training associated with technology, software, and/or manipulatives to enhance instruction across multiple levels of college mathematics, including the effective and ethical integration of artificial intelligence tools. Provide a list of related training or professional activities, including dates of completion.

D. Evidence of ongoing professional development (e.g., research, publishing, presenting, attending conferences, coursework, or training) with dates included for all listed activities.

E. Service or leadership experience on committees or projects related to mathematics or education at the department, college, district, or community level, with dates of participation included.

F. Application of accessibility standards and practices in instructional materials and course design. Provide a list of related training or professional activities, including dates of completion.

G. Completion of 21 or more graduate semester hours in mathematics, applied mathematics, statistics, or probability prefixes, with at least one graduate-level course in analysis or algebra. List each course number, course title, semester, and university of record.

Special Working Conditions

  • Travel to campus during the interview/selection process will be at the candidate's own expense.
  • Will be required to travel or be assigned to all MCCCD locations
  • May be required to work evenings or weekends
  • Will be required to work and teach on campus since the majority of classes are conducted in person
  • May require prolonged periods of viewing a computer screen
  • May be required to lift or carry up to 25 lbs
  • Will be required to work in an area of light to heavy noise levels daily
