Position Overview

Vantage is seeking a highly skilled and strategic Senior Developer, Automation Operations to lead the development, optimization, and support of mission-critical automation systems across its data center portfolio. This role will serve as a technical authority on control systems architecture, software integration, and operational reliability, partnering closely with Engineering, Site Operations, Software Development, and Construction teams. The ideal candidate will bring deep expertise in industrial automation and software development, with a strong understanding of PLC programming, system communications, and data-driven operations. This position is ideal for a seasoned professional ready to drive innovation, mentor technical teams, and shape the future of automation at scale.

Essential Job Functions

Automation Architecture and Development

  • Design, develop, and implement scalable automation solutions for power and cooling systems across multiple sites.

  • Lead programming efforts for PLCs and control systems using platforms such as Rockwell Automation.

  • Integrate control systems with enterprise software platforms and data analytics tools.

Technical Leadership and Troubleshooting

  • Serve as a senior escalation point for complex control system failures and incidents.

  • Guide Site Operations and Engineering teams through advanced troubleshooting and root-cause analysis.

  • Participate in a rotating, 24/7/365 on-call team responding to high-priority automation issues.

System Optimization and Upgrades

  • Evaluate and upgrade legacy control systems to improve reliability and reduce obsolescence.

  • Develop and implement preventive maintenance programs and lifecycle strategies.

  • Ensure systems are configured to meet evolving operational and business requirements.

Cross-Functional Collaboration

  • Partner with Design Engineering and Construction teams to influence automation standards and specifications.

  • Collaborate with Software Development teams to enhance system integration and data flow.

  • Provide mentorship and technical guidance to junior automation technicians and developers.

Data Strategy and Operational Insights

  • Analyze system-generated data to identify performance trends and recommend operational improvements.

  • Lead initiatives to improve data integrity, system visibility, and actionable insights.

  • Support the development of dashboards and reporting tools for automation performance metrics.

Governance, Compliance, and Safety

  • Ensure all automation systems comply with internal standards and external regulations.

  • Promote safety and reliability in all aspects of automation design and implementation.

  • Maintain documentation and records to support audits, compliance, and continuous improvement.

Additional Duties

  • Handle additional responsibilities as assigned by management.

Job Requirements

  • 4-5 years of experience in industrial automation and software development required.

  • Experience in mission-critical environments such as data centers strongly preferred.

  • Advanced proficiency in PLC programming and industrial control systems.

  • Strong understanding of automation protocols including Ethernet/IP, Modbus/TCP, Modbus/RTU, and BACnet.

  • Experience integrating control systems with enterprise platforms and cloud-based tools.

  • Excellent problem-solving, communication, and project management skills.

  • Ability to lead cross-functional initiatives and mentor technical staff.

  • High attention to detail, strategic thinking, and adaptability in a fast-paced environment.

  • Travel expected to be up to 25%, but may increase as the business evolves.

The expected salary range for this role is $150,000-160,000 + Bonus per year. Actual compensation will be determined by skills, experience, and internal equity.
