Cleveland Utilities Authority, a municipal utility providing electric, water, wastewater and fiber services to the Cleveland, Tennessee/Bradley County area, is seeking a Fiber Network Engineer. This position will serve as the principal technical representative to our customers in the design, implementation, maintenance and support of their carrier network.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Perform installation, configuration, and support of customer’s Central Office network devices, systems, and related equipment.
- Responsible for the daily performance and availability of the network with an emphasis on 5x9’s availability.
- Resolve all Tier 1 and Tier 2 escalations in a Carrier Network environment.
- Develop and follow detailed MOP’s/SOP’s related to the deployment and maintenance of equipment to ensure interoperability and network availability.
- Provide customer oversight related to network upgrades, capacity planning and life-cycle management.
- Acquire and maintain an up-to-date knowledge of all customer equipment and software related to their delivery of services.
- Develop and maintain up-to-date documentation related to topology and configuration specifications of the network.
- Ensure front-line customer satisfaction by dealing professionally and effectively with our customers and their customers.
- Support the customer’s Operations Department with an emphasis on mentoring and elevating the skill set of the customer’s technical team.
- Review and develop best practice policies to promote operational continuous improvements and efficiencies.
- Assist with procurement of equipment and vendor management.
- Oversee and manage FTTx network installation and upgrade projects.
PERSONAL REQUIREMENTS:
- Associates degree (two-year college or technical school): Required. Field of Study: Engineering, Computer Science, Telecommunications or related discipline.
- Bachelor’s degree in a related field (from an accredited college/university): Preferred. Field of Study: Engineering, Computer Science, Telecommunications or related discipline.
- A valid Class “D” Tennessee Driver’s License.
- Three plus years of network support experience in a service/provider carrier environment.
- Experience configuring virtualized server environments, such as V Mware or KVM.
- Advanced knowledge of OSP engineering and functions.
- Advanced knowledge of IP v4, IP v6, OSI model Layers 1-4 and various routing and switching protocols.
- Available to work after hours when needed and perform call duty.
