Job Description

Operates mammography radiographic equipment; positions patients, processes images, maintains and cleans equipment. Maintains required documentation. Guides mammography technologists.

Job Responsibility

Provide leadership, coaching, and/or mentoring to other mammography technologists.Performs radiographic procedures.
Reviews request to determine proper exam protocols. Inspects in-patients Identification bracelet for two identifiers: patient name and medical record number.
Outpatients are identified by asking the patient to state name and date of birth, and verifies the radiology order.
Reviews request for indications of WET or STAT readings.
Reviews processed radiographs in Synapse to insure that the exam is present, anatomically correct, and laterality and user identifications are present.
Maintains exam areas, equipment and supplies.
Assures cleanliness and safety of exam room and surrounding areas.
Reviews supply levels, notifying management of the need to order specific items.
Identifies malfunctions in radiographic equipment and reports same to management.
Assists in orientation of new technologists. Demonstrates proper exam protocols. Shows trainee where all supplies are stored.
Explains procedure for transport of patients.
Performs clerical and technical duties including, but not limited to: maintaining logs, posting charges, computer data entry.
Ensures exam and image integrity.
Accesses exam using Worklist and when unable to do so; determines exam order status in Misys or Worklist.
Assures all exams functionality (calls Radiology IT with Worklist problems). Cancels exam and changes exam when original order is altered.
Documents exam completion in chart for in-patient exams, when necessary.
Provides excellent customer service.

Job Qualification

Vocational or Technical school Diploma required, or equivalent combination of education and related experience.
Current license to practice as a Radiology Technologist in New York State, required.
Current ARRT Mammography registration, required,
plus specialized certifications as needed.
3-5 years of relevant experience, required.
