Position Summary
The Principal Systems Engineer will be a key technical leader supporting all phases of new platform development-from concept and technology development through commercialization and post-market support.
This role partners with marketing, medical affairs, physicians, and user experience researchers to define and refine user and design requirements. Activities include preclinical and formative studies, hands-on collaboration with physicians, and integrating user feedback into design iterations.
The engineer will architect, design, select, and evaluate critical system components, software architecture, and hardware for electromechanical devices, including single-use disposables and consoles used in ablation procedures.
Technologies may involve:
- Touchscreen displays
- Embedded microcontrollers and electronic circuit boards
- RF communications and application processors
- Sensors and data acquisition systems
- Pumps, valves, and motor technologies
Key Responsibilities:
- Architect, design, develop, test, and transfer electromechanical systems and disposables for Class II medical devices
- Deliver system diagrams, architecture development, GUI development, component selection, subsystem design, prototypes, and V&V activities
- Collaborate with internal stakeholders to translate user needs into engineering requirements
- Optimize designs based on testing and feedback
- Partner with external vendors to accelerate product development and testing
- Create design documentation (concept diagrams, specifications, requirements, test plans, V&V reports)
- Serve as a hands-on technical resource, contributing directly to mechanical, electrical, and software problem-solving
- Lead by example, mentoring junior engineers and driving cross-disciplinary collaboration
Qualifications:
- Education: B.S. degree in Electrical, Software, or related engineering discipline (advanced degree preferred)
- Experience: 12+ years in electronics and system design for new product development
- Experience working with marketing and clinical teams to develop user needs and requirements
- Strong technical expertise in software-driven electromechanical medical devices
- Broad engineering expertise across multiple disciplines; prior experience with ablation devices is a strong plus
- Experience with single-use disposable devices
- Proven ability to create clear, thorough product design documentation
