About the Role MWH is currently seeking a Structural Engineer to support the construction of a Water Treatment Plant located in the Greater Portland, OR area. This landmark project, the first of its kind, will ultimately deliver 135 million gallons of clean water per day to the Portland community. This position presents a unique opportunity to contribute to a transformative infrastructure and filtration project, with involvement throughout the entire project delivery lifecycle. Essential Functions
- Oversee structural installations to ensure compliance with project specifications, safety standards, and relevant codes.
- Monitor construction activities related to concrete, steel, foundations, and other structural components to ensure adherence to design documents and industry best practices.
- Coordinate and collaborate with construction teams, subcontractors, and vendors to ensure proper sequencing and quality of structural work.
- Identify and resolve on-site structural issues efficiently, ensuring minimal impact to schedule and budget.
- Implement structural quality control procedures and inspections to verify integrity and durability of materials and assemblies.
- Ensure all structural work complies with local, state, and federal building codes and assist with necessary permitting where applicable.
- Conduct safety evaluations of structural work and ensure compliance with project safety protocols.
- Provide support during structural testing and commissioning phases to verify performance and stability of constructed systems.
- Prepare or review structural design documentation including specifications, drawings, and calculations.
- Perform site inspections and assessments of structural systems to ensure safe and proper installation.
- Work closely with civil, mechanical, and electrical engineers, as well as other stakeholders, to coordinate design and construction efforts.
- Troubleshoot structural challenges and offer practical, cost-effective engineering solutions.
- Stay informed on industry developments, materials innovations, and evolving structural engineering practices.
Basic Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in civil or Structural Engineering (or a related field).
- Proven experience working as a Structural Engineer on construction or infrastructure projects.
- Solid understanding of structural systems, materials (concrete, steel, masonry), and construction practices.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with attention to detail.
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills in multi-disciplinary project teams.
- Knowledge of relevant building codes, structural design standards, and regulatory requirements.
- Experience with water or wastewater treatment plant construction is preferred.
