Sr Research Scientist 1

Promega Corporation
United States, Wisconsin, Madison
Sep 18, 2025
Job Description

OUR TEAM: We are a highly collaborative group of scientists dedicated to advancing the study of cell biology and cell health. Our research focuses on developing innovative tools to explore altered cell health and inflammatory processes, including senescence. By combining Promega's powerful technologies with our deep expertise in assay development, we strive to meet the evolving needs of the research community. Looking ahead, we are expanding our use of cutting-edge AI/ML approaches to analyze complex data sets (e.g., transcriptomics, proteomics). These efforts aim to uncover new biological insights, build predictive models, and deliver next-generation assay systems and analysis tools that empower scientists across disciplines-from basic research to drug discovery.

YOUR ROLE: As a Senior Scientist, you will play a pivotal role in uniting experimental assay development with advanced computational approaches to deliver biologically meaningful and analytically robust solutions. You will design and execute sophisticated experimental strategies, generate large-scale data sets, and harness AI/ML tools to analyze data, build predictive models, and uncover actionable insights. In this role, you will collaborate closely with cross-functional teams-including experts in transcriptomics, proteomics, quantitative biology, computational modeling, and assay development-to ensure our products integrate both biological depth and technological innovation. You will drive near-term assay development while laying the groundwork for transformative, systems-level capabilities that support Promega's long-term strategic vision. Beyond project execution, you will have the opportunity to lead initiatives, mentor colleagues, and champion innovative ideas that position predictive modeling as a cornerstone of future product innovation.

YOUR EXPERIENCE: You are a scientist with advanced training (Ph.D. or M.S. with substantial experience) in biochemistry, molecular biology, computational biology, or a related discipline, with proven expertise at the intersection of experimental and computational science. You have practical experience in transcriptomics or proteomics and bring a solid foundation in predictive modeling, AI/ML applications, or systems-level biology. Experience with assay development, cell-based systems, and altered cell health- especially senescence-is highly valued. What sets you apart is your ability to turn complex data into clear biological insight. You've worked successfully in cross-disciplinary settings, building productive collaborations that bridge diverse perspectives. Regardless of whether your path has been in academia or industry, you are driven by curiosity, grounded in technical rigor, and energized by the opportunity to integrate computation and biology. At your core, you are a curious learner, an analytical thinker, and a collaborative colleague-ready to help define how Promega advances predictive modeling and assay innovation.

CORE DUTIES:

1. Work independently and collaboratively to create novel product concepts, experimental strategies, and applications.

2. Utilize AI/ML tools to analyze data, build predictive models, and generate actionable insights.

3. Design and execute complex experimental strategies to support product development goals.

4. Generate clear and concise technical documentation and contribute to internal and external scientific literature.

5. Derive information from peer-reviewed literature and other scientific sources to guide experimental planning.

6. Collaborate with cross-functional teams to establish customer requirements and define product specifications.

7. Conduct hands-on bench work in laboratory settings.

8. Demonstrates inclusion through their own words and actions and is accountable for a safe workspace. Acts with kindness, curiosity, and respect for others.

9. Embracing and being open to incorporating Promega's 6 Emotional & Social Intelligence (ESI) core principles in daily work.

10. Understands and complies with ethical, legal, and regulatory requirements applicable to our business.

KEY QUALIFICATIONS:

1. Ph.D. degree in biomedical sciences, bioinformatics, computational biology, biochemistry, biology of aging, cellular and molecular biology, genetics/genomics, neuroscience, or a related with 2+ years postgraduate lab experience.

OR

2. M.S. degree in the same fields with 4+ years postgraduate lab experience.

3. Demonstrated competence in designing and executing complex experimental strategies.

4. Experience with molecular analysis techniques (gene expression, transcriptomics, and/or proteomics), including multidimensional analysis of large data sets.

5. Experience with AI/ML model training and application in biological research.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

1. Research experience in cell biology or cell health.

2. Experience in senescence research or other forms of altered cell health.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

1. Ability to remain stationary at a lab workstation for extended periods of time.

2. Ability to wear protective gear (gloves, lab coat, safety glasses, etc.) and position oneself to handle materials in laboratory environments.

3. Ability to use computers and Microsoft Office applications.
