What does a role as a Director of Operations look like?

The Director of Operations is responsible for overseeing all aspects of the company's distribution network, ensuring that products are received, stored, and delivered accurately, efficiently, and on time. This role requires a strategic leader who can optimize operations, manage large teams across multiple facilities, and implement best practices in logistics, inventory management, and transportation. The Director of Operations plays a critical role in driving operational excellence, supporting company growth, and maintaining high levels of customer satisfaction.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead, develop, and manage the distribution and warehouse management teams across all facilities.
  • Design and implement strategies to improve distribution efficiency, reduce costs, and enhance service levels.
  • Ensure compliance with all federal, state, and local regulations, including OSHA and DOT requirements.
  • Oversee inventory management processes to maintain accuracy, minimize shrink, and optimize stock levels.
  • Establish and monitor performance metrics (KPIs) to drive continuous improvement in safety, quality, productivity, and customer service.
  • Collaborate with senior leadership, sales, and supply chain teams to align distribution operations with business goals.
  • Negotiate and manage relationships with vendors.
  • Implement and maintain technology solutions (WMS, TMS, ERP) to streamline operations and increase visibility.
  • Develop and manage budgets, forecasts, and cost-control measures for the distribution network.
  • Foster a culture of accountability, teamwork, and safety throughout the distribution organization.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Supply Chain Management, Business Administration, Logistics, or related field.
  • Track record of progressive experience in distribution, logistics, or supply chain management, with at least 5 years in a leadership role.
  • Proven success managing multi-site distribution operations.
  • Strong knowledge of warehouse management systems (WMS), transportation management systems (TMS), and ERP platforms.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead large teams and drive process improvements in a fast-paced environment.
  • Excellent problem-solving, analytical, and organizational skills.
  • Strong financial acumen with experience managing budgets and P&L responsibility.
  • Exceptional communication and leadership skills with the ability to influence across all levels of the organization.

Work Environment:

  • This position will require travel between distribution centers and occasional visits to customer or vendor locations.
  • The role involves both office and warehouse environments.
