DESCRIPTION OF WORK

As the Assistant Highway Maintenance Manager, you will be responsible for creating programs, estimates, and plans for a range of maintenance operations, such as surface treatment, patching, snow removal, and bridge upkeep. Your duties will include drafting preliminary long-term, annual, monthly, and weekly work plans for seasonal construction and maintenance initiatives, which will require approval from senior management. You will supervise both general and specialized maintenance teams to ensure the effective execution of highway and bridge maintenance tasks, as well as minor construction projects.
In addition to these responsibilities, you will manage incident and emergency response activities within your designated area. You will also oversee the management and monitoring of environmental clearances and permits related to highway and bridge construction and maintenance. Regular inspections of highway, bridge, or tunnel conditions will be essential, along with evaluating the work of subordinate supervisors. Furthermore, you will assess estimates and requests for funding, personnel, materials, and equipment on a seasonal and annual basis, providing recommendations based on your evaluations. Lastly, you will handle all requisitions or purchase orders for materials and equipment, in addition to preparing necessary correspondence and reports. Interested in learning more? Work Schedule and Additional Information:
- Full-time employment
- Work hours are 7:00 AM to 3:00 PM, Monday - Friday, with a 30-minute lunch.
- Dual shifts effective November through March
- Telework: You may have the opportunity to work from home (telework) part-time. In order to telework, you must have a securely configured high-speed internet connection and work from an approved location inside Pennsylvania. If you are unable to telework, you will have the option to report to the headquarters office in Bloomsburg. The ability to telework is subject to change at any time. Additional details may be provided during the interview.

- Salary: Selected candidates who are new to employment within the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania will begin employment at the starting annual salary of $67,736 (before taxes).

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY

QUALIFICATIONS Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:
- One year of experience as a Highway Maintenance Coordinator, Roadway Programs Coordinator, or Transportation Construction Manager 1 (Commonwealth job title or equivalent Federal Government job title, as determined by the Office of Administration); or
- Six years of technical experience in highway maintenance, highway construction, or maintenance of heavy equipment used in highway construction projects; or
- An equivalent combination of experience and training.
Special Requirement:
- This position requires possession of a valid PA non-commercial Class C driver's license or equivalent.
