Job Summary

Caltech's UVEX mission has an occasional position available to assist the electrical engineering staff in electronics board assembly and various other tasks related to fabrication and testing of instrument electronics on NASA's UVEX mission.

Essential Job Duties

Assemble and rework prototype, engineering and flight electronics boards by hand soldering, kit parts, assemble wire harnesses, participate in laboratory testing and light housekeeping. The candidate will have experience with aerospace industry flight board assembly and possess NASA flight assembly techniques and courses that utilize soldering and inspection. No heavy lifting/carrying. Seeking someone with the ability to work independently as well as collaboratively when necessary. No supervisory responsibilities. Education and background in engineering, science or related field would be beneficial.

Basic Qualifications
  • The position requires the candidate to have a minimum of 7 years soldering experience as J-STD-001ES Certified IPC Specialist working on flight board assemblies in the aerospace industry.
  • The candidate must possess extensive experience with NASA flight assembly techniques used in hand soldering and inspection, have thorough understanding of NASA-STD-8739 series of courses including ESD Control.
  • Must be detail oriented, exhibit excellent discipline and work ethics, have exceptional organizational and communication skills, ability to follow written and verbal instructions, maintain traceability paperwork and perform well within a dynamic university research team.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Prefer applicants with appropriate NASA Certifications.
  • 20 years soldering experience as J-STD-001ES Certified IPC Specialist working on flight board assemblies in the aerospace industry

Hiring Range

$34.00 - $40.25 Per Hour

The salary of the finalist(s) selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to, internal equity, experience, education, specialty and training.
