Central Pet Distribution, a division of Central Pet & Garden Co. is currently seeking a Warehouse Manager on Evening Shift (Monday-Friday) at our facility in Vandalia, OH.

JOB SUMMARY

Responsible for the supervision of exempt and non-exempt warehouse staff and assists with drivers. Responsible for ensuring that all activities for the Distribution Center are completed in a timely, accurate and cost-effective manner. This includes receiving, warehousing, shipping and delivery of pet foods and accessories. Also responsible for the hiring, training and development of warehouse personnel. Must provide support to the site leadership to meet P&L budget and established KPI's.

This position will work Monday thru Friday, from 3:00pm until the job is completed each night.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Oversee all personnel management, including recruitment, hiring, training, directing, developing, scheduling, and disciplining employees. Ensure timely, accurate and constructive feedback and transactional items for employees. This includes providing new hires with a comprehensive onboarding and training process, completion of new hire 30-60-90 day performance reviews, continual coaching and employee development, review, approval, and submission of hourly employee timesheets and bonuses, attendance tracking, listening and addressing employee concerns and following up as needed, issuing corrective action as warranted, reporting work injuries, processing employment termination paperwork upon approval. Will notify management and the human resources department of any high-level concerns including but not limited to: employee complaints or concerns relating to harassment, discrimination, accommodation, unethical practices.
  • Promote a safe and efficient work environment for all employees.
  • Maintain knowledge of systems, processes, and general business activities to execute root cause analysis, solve problems, hold teams accountable, and support hands-on functions. Own the implementation of new processes and tools. Lead training and ensure operations team proficiency.
  • Lead operations team with a "constant improvement" mindset. Work with managers, supervisors, and cross functional teams to develop, implement, and administer policies, procedures, and controls to increase safety, service level, profits, employee engagement/retention and efficiency across all departments.
  • Plan, organize, and implement a long-term plan to maintain distribution efficiency and leadership stability with growth of the business.
  • Partner with other operation team leaders to meet site, business unit and company objectives.
  • Assist operations leaders to budget and establish cost-control measures to operate in a cost-effective and profitable manner Responsible for achieving monthly and annual budget goals.
  • Communicate with external and internal stakeholders; including sales, customer experience, customers, human resources and employees in a professional and timely manner to solve problems and share information.
  • Meet all KPI requirements including but not limited to fill rate, on time delivery, inventory accuracy, employee retention and turnover.
  • Meet all requirements of Direct-to-Consumer partner Service Level Agreements (SLAs).
  • Assist other operations leaders to develop, implement and administer a comprehensive pest management program to ensure safety and integrity of pet food products. This program should be maintained in accordance with Central Pet Distribution, key vendor partnerships, AIB and FISA guidelines.
  • Ensure operations are in compliance with federal, state and local laws and regulations, including OSHA and the Department of Transportation.
  • Active member of the Safety Committee and promotes a safety culture, which includes scheduling quarterly meetings and walk-through inspections of the facility, following up on any safety concerns, electing safety committee members on an annual basis and ensuring the safety of all employees, guests, vendors, etc.
  • Ensure timely and accurate completion of all necessary reports and paperwork related to customers, vendor and government agencies.
  • Coordinate daily, weekly, monthly and annual activities for vendors, including all SAP activities, daily lot and inventory control, monthly inventory reconciliation, cycle count program, physical inventory count, etc.
  • Report needs for maintenance of the facility, material handling equipment and vehicle fleet, and any property issues to your manager.
  • Assist operations leaders to develop, implement and maintain an integrated route delivery system for Central Pet Distribution customers.
  • Communicate any operational or personnel issues with your manager; include Human Resources on personnel concerns.
  • Regular attendance and onsite presence.
  • Complete and submit productivity and metric reporting in a timely manner.
  • Responsible for maintaining a constant state of compliance with all quality systems for the warehouse including, but not limited to, AIB standards, compliance with GDPs (Good Distribution Practices) and all employee training required to support quality systems. This includes managing quality processes such as hold requests and mock recoveries when required.

QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED
    • Bachelor's degree in operations management or Logistics preferred, and 3 - 5 years of previous management experience in a fast-paced, high volume distribution environment.
    • Previous experience managing a route delivery system and extensive experience working with Common Carriers and UPS.
    • Possess excellent computer skills, including previous experience working with Warehouse and Transportation Management Systems.
    • Understand, abide by, and enforce all Company policies and procedures.
    • Excellent analytical and planning skills. Able to plan and be proactive to prevent time spent reacting to problems.
    • Able to safely operate and become certified in the operation of all warehouse equipment including forklifts, pallet jacks and shrink wrap machines.
    • Operate basic office equipment including telephones, copy machine, fax machine and computer programs (Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel and PowerPoint).
    • Possess excellent interpersonal and management skills to aid in the development, direction, delegation and discipline of staff. Must be understanding of people and their problems, diplomatic and have a sense of fairness and consistency.
    • Able to communicate effectively in both oral and written format. Must be able to read, write and speak English. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals.
    • Able to add, subtract, multiply and divide.
    • Able to meet deadlines and work under pressure.
    • Flexible to changing customer or operational demands and able to work overtime on short notice. Position requires working until the job is complete.
    • Effective problem-solver, organized and attentive to detail. Must be able to manage multiple tasks and projects at the same time.
    • Ability to work effectively in a team environment to achieve results and work independently with little or no supervision.
    • Ability to develop and document processes and procedures.
    • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations.
    • Able to perform the physical requirements of all warehouse positions.
    • Ability to work in a constant state of alertness and safe manner.

    QUALIFICATIONS PREFERRED
    • Previous forklift certification.
    • Previous delivery, routing, material handling experience and warehouse sanitation programs.
    • Previous experience in a continuous improvement environment. Lean or six Sigma.
