This position is eligible for a Department of Defense SkillBridge Program Internship for active duty servicemembers transitioning out of the U.S. Military.

North Wind Site Services is focused on providing engineering, program management, environmental remediation services including investigation and characterization, environmental restoration, unexploded ordnance/military munitions response (MMRP), regulatory public involvement services, environmental compliance, logistics, and records and facility management.

POSITION PURPOSE:

The White Sands Missile Range (WSMR) in New Mexico is a large Army base regulated by the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), New Mexico Environment Department (NMED), Federal Executive Orders, and local environmental policies and permits. The purpose of this position is to help WSMR operate in compliance with those environmental regulations.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:


  • Conduct wide variety of field work including sampling, surveying, inspecting, and testing different types of environmental media
  • Operate and maintain monitoring equipment, including sensors and laboratory instruments.
  • Record data from field and laboratory studies and perform tests to identify and measure pollutants and other contaminants.
  • Training and self-study of environmental regulations and procedures related to hazardous waste, universal waste, drinking water, wastewater, stormwater, air quality, and groundwater.
  • Conduct inspections to ensure compliance with regulatory requirements, site-specific procedures, and health and safety regulations.
  • Prepare reports, charts, and documentation summarizing test results and analyses for clients and regulatory bodies.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Education and Experience:


  • Associate's degree in environmental science or related field.

OR


  • High school diploma AND 1 year of working experience combined with technical training.

Skills and Abilities:


  • Demonstrated ability to work accurately, adhere to instructions/procedures, maintain schedules/deadlines and handle multiple priorities.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills; work effectively and cooperatively with all levels of management and staff, government and military personnel.
  • Ability to work independently, as well as part of a team, solve problems, exercise good judgment, work under pressure, and work with minimal supervision.
  • Proficiency with MS Excel and Word
  • Commitment to health and safety in the workplace.

Special Requirements:


  • Ability to pass federal background check
  • Must have valid drivers license

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:


  • Current OSHA HAZWOPER certification

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:


  • Physical ability to safely operate equipment including pickup trucks and waste handling equipment such as forklifts, dollies, wrenches, etc.
  • Physical ability to stand and walk for extended periods and safety operate motor vehicles in traffic and on unimproved roads.

WORKING ENVIRONMENT:


  • Outdoors and indoors including warehouse environment.
  • Will include working under difficult conditions that may include heat, humidity, and wind.
  • Will be exposed to moving parts/equipment, forklifts, lift gates, trucks, etc.
