POSITION TITLE
Dewey Plant - Process Controls Engineer

POSITION OVERVIEW

The Process Controls Engineer is responsible for maintaining the process control systems at the Milliken Dewey Plant (chemical manufacturing facility) in Inman, SC. This position is responsible for plant programming activities, including, but not limited to, performing program changes, maintaining proper documentation of changes, implementing software updates, training PPIs and operators on control systems, and ensuring efficient use of control systems and related equipment functionality. This position interfaces with personnel in multiple other departments including but not limited to Operations, Engineering, and Health / Safety / Environmental. Employees must exercise principles of safety, environmental management, quality management, and good housekeeping in all aspects of the job and must inform supervision of any unsafe practices or conditions. The work schedule is Monday-Friday, 1st shift but may have to work outside hours and on-call.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Provide support for Quantum and Momentum PLC hardware and SCADAs, including remote IO using Modbus and Modbus+ network communications.
  • Provide support for GE iFIX control systems including SCADA's, graphic design, & web services.
  • Provide support for Siemens PCS7 Hardware, Software, and Configuration including OS Server, OS Client, Web server, Redundancy troubleshooting, and Remote IO and Profibus network support.
  • Provide support for Triconix hardware. Including Remote IO and nodes.
  • Identify and resolve issues related to the above to ensure stable operation, i.e. patches, software updates, firmware updates including smart instruments, etc.
  • Identify and implement projects to address control system component obsolescence and reliability improvements.
  • Lead and support control systems upgrade projects as well as installation of new control systems as needed from planning and design to installation and commissioning.
  • Manage vendor service contracts and maintain critical spare parts inventory.
  • Implement control strategies / programming used to interface with and control physical devices such as valves and pumps to ensure equipment is operating within the integrity operating envelope.
  • Update Network Hierarchy, General Arrangement, and other Engineering Drawings to reflect changes.
  • Configure and design custom graphic displays and trends.
  • Maintain system documentation. Participate in and drive the change management process as it relates to the control systems.
  • Troubleshoot / provide troubleshooting support for system hardware, software, network, and instrument bus technologies as needed.
  • Provide specification information and commissioning support for instrumentation as needed.
  • Support Process Hazard Analysis (PHA) and participate in change management related to control systems.
  • Implement projects as identified, requested and/or needed.
  • Provide support for Canary Historian.

SAFETY

  • Actively participates in the safety program.
  • Enforce safety regulations and correct or report all hazards.
  • Understand company policies and procedures and see that they are followed.
  • Complete all Dewey plant required safety training to ensure competency in all areas.
  • Participate in Safety Team and plant safety auditing process.
  • Document any change to a process through the use of the PSM MOC (Process Safety Management, Management of Change) form regardless of the PSM status of the process to include non-PSM processes.
  • Never change a process without approval from Senior Management or thru the approval of the MOC including temporary changes of any kind.
  • Adhere to all leader std work requirements as outlined in the Corp Safety Hub, Safety Standardization/ Leader Std work.

REGULATORY

  • Completes all required regulatory training.

QUALIFICATIONS - REQUIRED

  • BS in Chemical Engineering or Electrical or Computer Science
  • Understanding of P&IDs and Process Flow Diagrams
  • Understanding of electrical elementary and loop diagrams
  • 2+ years' experience programming DCS systems (Siemens PCS7, DeltaV, Rockwell, etc.)
  • Availability to resolve urgent system problems outside of business hours
  • Ability to troubleshoot controls
  • Manufacturing experience
