Reporting to the Head, this position provides clinical and administrative oversight and support of behavioral health operations within the Department of Medicine. Oversee the practice, quality, and outcomes of clinical care and regulatory compliance for the department behavioral health team. Oversee any contractual partnerships between the department and the behavioral health team.


Duties and Responsibilities

  • Operational Responsibilities: Works with Behavioral Health providers and department leadership to determine behavioral health priorities for the department. Practice Analysis: Serves as an expert resource in the utilization of Behavioral Health providers within the area of care delivery. Identifies new and existing best practice initiatives, collaborates in determining competency metrics, assessing financial productivity and participates in clinical outcome data assessment and analysis.
  • Hiring/Orientation: Participates in and leads the onboarding of Behavioral Health providers within the Department of Medicine. Works with Department Head to maintain documentation related to orientation, continued competency validation, credentialing, and privileging.
  • Financial: Oversees and optimizes behavioral health team billing and documentation. Assists in identifying benchmarks to evaluate billable and non- billable BH performance. Works with billing/coding and EMR specialists to determine metrics for productivity and evaluation of patient care by Behavioral Health providers. Manages schedule, staffing plan, and coverage within the assigned area. Collaborate with department leadership to develop annual operational budget.
  • Scope of Practice: Adheres to hospital and medical center policy to ensure that clinicians function within and to the limits of their scope of practice by delineating privileges or collaborative practice agreements. Remains current with state law and scope of practice in the State of Illinois.
  • Professional Development: Serves as a resource and champion for professional development opportunities for Behavioral Health providers and serves as a resource to the department in advancing the professional development of Behavioral Health providers.
  • Credentialing & Privileging: Ensures the maintenance of current credentialing and privileging of Behavioral Health providers. Participates in the timely and successful completion of necessary activities for Behavioral Health providers within the Department of Medicine.
  • Competency Evaluation: Works with departmental leadership to establish templates and checklists to ensure orientation documentation.
  • Works to identify metrics for initial, focused, and ongoing professional performance evaluation and observation of clinical skills. Assists in determining opportunities to increase the knowledge and skills of Behavioral Health Providers. Co-responsible, along with divisional leadership, for preparing and delivering Behavioral Health yearly performance evaluations for all direct reports. Establishes relationships with key stakeholders to assess best practices and specific changes to Behavioral Health practice. Ensures that these changes are communicated and incorporated into Behavioral Health clinical practice.
  • Communication & Leadership: Demonstrates excellence in written and verbal communication, public speaking, presentation skills, critical thinking, and decision-making skills. Clearly understands the implications of situations and uses sound judgment when dealing with multiple disciplines. Demonstrates ability to facilitate group processes and achieve agreement and consensus. Ability to foster a cooperative work environment and view success in relation to group success. Demonstrates strong analytical ability and understanding of statistical and marketing concepts. Possesses strong program development skills.
  • Perform other related duties and participate in special projects as assigned.

    Minimum Qualifications:
  • Masters Degree in a behavioral health field
  • Demonstrated experience in behavioral health clinical practice
  • Effective communication skills (oral and written)
  • Demonstrated experience in leadership, multidisciplinary collaboration, interpersonal communication, education, clinical experience and change management required.
