Accompanist Kern Community College District Salary: $4,440.16 - $6,273.84 Monthly Job Type: Full Time Job Number: FY24-2501383 Location: Bakersfield College -- Panorama Campus, CA Department: Performing Arts Basic Function Under the direction of an assigned supervisor, perform piano accompaniment for choral groups and variety of programs and performances; assist in the instruction of vocal groups. Representative Duties Accompany vocal and instrumental groups and soloists during classes, rehearsals and performances; drive a vehicle to various off-campus performances and special events. Accompany choral groups and soloists at special events including concerts, festivals and recitals; assist in the coordination of events as assigned. Assist conductor in the instruction of vocal groups; recognize vocal and musical difficulties and recommend modifications; accompany voice classes; serve as a vocal coach for individual students. Assist with the supervision of students in classes, at rehearsals and at special events. Record accompaniment music for voice or choral students. Inventory and issue choir uniforms to students; maintain related records. Serve as the music librarian; check out materials; maintain related records. Operate a computer to enter data and update records. Perform related duties as assigned. Minimum Qualifications Any combination equivalent to: Associate degree in music with a major in piano and two years piano accompaniment experience. Salary Kern Community College District Salary Schedules, CLASSIFIED, Range 41.0 40 hours per week, 12 months per year $4,440.16 - $6,273.84 monthly (Maximum Entry Level Salary: $4,664.95 monthly) Special Instructions Complete application packets will be accepted until the position is filled. Basic principles and methods of instruction. Basic record-keeping techniques. Basic inventory methods and procedures. Operation of a computer to enter data and maintain records. Interpersonal skills using tact, patience and courtesy. ABILITY TO: Play the piano with a high degree of skill and use it in accompaniment to vocal or instrumental music. Accompany vocal soloists in classroom and performance situations. Sight read music rapidly and accurately. Arrange and improvise music. Transpose, read and play several staves individually or together. Interpret markings in a musical score. Operate a computer to enter data and maintain records. Understand and follow oral and written instructions. Communicate effectively both orally and in writing. Establish and maintain cooperative and effective working relationships with others.
