Shive-Hattery has a need for an experienced structural engineer with Post-Tensioned Concrete and Concrete structure restoration experience. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience in client contact and development, design, and leadership of engineering projects with a specific knowledge of concrete design and restoration project types. In your role as Structural Engineer at Shive-Hattery, you will contribute to a variety of projects. Our clients range from local clients to Fortune 500 companies. You will be an integral part of our team serving our current and future clients, learning from and teaching others, and working at an elevated level to understand and improve team processes and growth. You will lead design projects as the Structural Engineer of Record for a variety of markets, including Commercial, Healthcare, Higher Education, and Gaming & Hospitality. Many projects will focus on the structural discipline, while others will be multi-discipline teams. Requirements:
- Education: Bachelor's degree in engineering from an accredited program
- Experience: 20+ years of experience in the design and leadership of structural engineering projects
- License/Certification: Professional Engineer licensure in Iowa or the ability for immediate licensure in Iowa
- Proven experience in relationship-building, business development, winning work, expanding work with existing clients, and leading project teams through every phase of the design process.
- General structural design experience using concrete, steel, and masonry. Wood design would be a plus.
- Experience with post-tensioned concrete slab and beam systems, including design, assessment, and restoration projects.
- Ability to lead the structural design of a project from schematic design through construction documents for both single-discipline and multi-discipline projects.
- Experience and willingness to share knowledge and provide direction to less-experienced engineers.
- Manage time and workload effectively, including planning, organizing, and prioritizing work.
- Strong attention to detail.
- Possess excellent oral and written communication skills, and comfortable presenting design solutions to team members and clients.
- Valid driver's license and willingness to travel as needed for the purposes of project management and business development.
- Ability to climb ladders, work off elevated platforms and open grating, and wear personal protective equipment required for specific clients and sites.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience using Revit, Risa suite, PT design software, and Microsoft Office software is preferred.
Requirements
- Lead business development and marketing strategy for the purpose of client development.
- Oversee shop drawing reviews and field data collection.
- Lead the structural design portion of projects, make design recommendations and decisions, and oversee/delegate the completion and quality of construction drawings, specifications, reports and other project documentation.
- Establish and manage structural scope, schedule, and budget for assessment, restoration, and new design projects.
- Collaborate with structural team members to facilitate positive project outcomes.
- Review, sign, and stamp engineering drawings.
- Mentor and teach other team members about engineering practice.
- Contribute to the continued development of quality control processes.
- Interact with and be a representative of the company with clients and contractors to provide excellent client experience.
- Partner with other team members to plan and implement short-term and long-term strategies for market growth.
- Develop technical design solutions for restoration and new design projects.
- Develop and identify training opportunities to improve and increase the company's capacity in the parking and concrete project markets.
