Ball State University Libraries seeks an energetic and creative librarian to join our Research and Teaching Services team. Research and Teaching librarians provide information and digital literacy instruction, in-depth research consultations, and serve as liaisons to academic departments. The minimum salary for this position is $50,000. Assignment may require some evenings and/or weekends.

Candidates for searches must have current authorization to be employed in the U.S. without employer sponsorship.

What you'll do and what you'll bring:

Position Function: Provide professional library expertise to the campus and local community with an emphasis on research, teaching and information services; facilitate library engagement through liaison program; provide specialized support, including library instruction, for students and faculty; provide individualized research consultation; work collaboratively with colleagues and faculty to foster and advance information literacy using ACRL best practices; support a collaborative work environment and service culture to advance the strategic direction of the University Libraries.
Minimum Requirements:

  • MLS/MLIS/MIS degree from an ALA accredited program at time of appointment.
  • Experience with and strong commitment to building relationships to further the library mission through liaison activities, reference, and library instruction; experience with electronic information services and library systems and their applications for reference and instruction.
  • Working knowledge of basic Microsoft Office applications and modern cloud-based communication platforms; effective in-person and written communication skills across a wide range of modes; assignment may require working some evenings and/or weekends.

Preferred Requirements:

  • Additional advanced degrees.
  • Experience providing subject-specific library instruction; library subject expertise in nursing and/or health sciences.

Duties/Responsibilities:

1. Serve as Librarian Liaison to students and faculty for selected academic departments to establish cooperative efforts and one-on-one communication, promote library services, collections, and expertise to the University community, and make referrals to other library units.

2. Develop, promote and provide course-related information literacy programs and library research training for the University community; review curriculum and work with teaching faculty to advance learning outcomes.

3. Develop, coordinate, and implement workshops and other instructional opportunities for the University community; create and produce effective informational and instructional materials and techniques; develop new instruction applications of technology including integrations with campus learning systems and platforms.

4. Create, develop, provide, and evaluate reference service using print and electronic information sources to university and community library users in Bracken Library and through remote access and referral to other library collections and service units.

5. Evaluate and make recommendations concerning the selection and implementation of new technologies to enhance research and teaching services.

6. Actively participate in activities such as: develop and create print and online resource guides, tutorials, and web pages; provide individual appointments for library research via in-person and electronic means; perform reference collection development for print and electronic materials; participate in instructional design; participate in library outreach activities.

7. Actively participate in and positively contribute to the activities of the Libraries, university, and profession through such opportunities as related professional organizations, presentations, committee service, publication, etc.; keep abreast of professional literature and scholarly developments in areas of specialization and pursue opportunities for relevant professional development.

8. Perform other related duties as assigned.
