Senior Digital Systems Engineer LOCATION: El Segundo, CA (Los Angeles Space Force Base) JOB STATUS: Full Time SALARY: 125,000 to 150,000 CLEARANCE: Secret Astrion is seeking a Senior Digital Systems Engineer Subject Matter Expert to support the U.S. Space Force's Space Systems Command (SSC), Launch Assured Access to Space (AATS) Acquisition Directorate (SSC/AAL). This is a full-time role based at Los Angeles Space Force Base, CA, focused on advancing the non-recurring design validation and certification of New Entrant Launch Service Providers. In this role, you will provide high-level systems engineering expertise, ensuring that launch vehicle designs, processes, and tools meet government and industry standards for assured space access. REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS / SKILLS
8+ years of systems engineering experience supporting DoD space systems programs. Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Mathematics, or Physical Sciences. Strong background in systems engineering for launch and/or space vehicle systems (preferred). Experience with systems engineering standards, tools, and processes across the product development life cycle. Hands-on experience with risk management practices and tracking systems. Proficiency in MS Office (Outlook, Excel, Word, PowerPoint), Adobe Acrobat, Jira, and Confluence. Skilled in preparing and delivering professional written and verbal presentations in both virtual and in-person settings. Ability to interface with and implement computer-based database and schedule tools. Current DoD Secret clearance (or ability to obtain). Willingness to travel as needed.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Conduct in-depth technical analyses of systems engineering products, including requirements, Preliminary & Critical Design Reviews, Test Plans/Procedures/Reports, Systems Engineering Master Plans, and compliance documentation. Build and maintain monitoring, notification, trending, and analysis tools within Jira and Confluence. Develop automated dashboards using Jira data to track program status and progress. Establish and refine configuration management practices and procedures. Create risk management tools and processes to track, analyze, and report program risks. Collaborate with Aerospace Corporation, Launch Vehicle Contractors, Launch Sites, and government stakeholders to ensure mission success. Provide situational awareness of certification progress through status reports, metrics, and executive-level briefings. Perform gap analysis assessments on contractor processes against government and commercial standards. Actively participate in and support systems engineering working group meetings.
