Supplier Quality Engineer - Powertrain

The Powertrain Supplier Quality Engineer (SQE) is responsible for ensuring that all purchased powertrain components-including engines, transmissions, and related systems-meet quality standards and performance requirements. This role involves working closely with suppliers, engineering, manufacturing, and purchasing teams to drive continuous improvement and ensure robust quality systems are in place throughout the supply base.

Key Responsibilities include but not limited to:



  • Supplier Quality Management:

    • Evaluate and approve new suppliers and components through APQP and PPAP processes
    • Conduct supplier audits and assessments to ensure compliance with IATF 16949 and ISO 9001 standards
    • Monitor supplier performance using KPIs such as PPM, delivery quality, and responsiveness
    • Issue Resolution & Continuous Improvement:
    • Lead root cause analysis and corrective action activities for supplier-related quality issues
    • Collaborate with suppliers to implement robust containment and long-term corrective actions
    • Drive continuous improvement initiatives using Six Sigma, Lean, and other quality tools




  • Launch & Program Support:

    • Support new product launches by ensuring supplier readiness and quality deliverables
    • Participate in design reviews and provide input on manufacturability and quality risks
    • Ensure timely PPAP submissions and approvals for new and modified components




  • Cross-Functional Collaboration:

    • Work closely with Purchasing, Engineering, and Manufacturing teams to align quality expectations
    • Provide technical support and guidance to suppliers on quality standards and requirements
    • Represent Supplier Quality in program meetings and supplier development activities



Basic Qualifications:



  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering (Preferably Mechanical, Electrical, or similar major)
  • A minimum of 5 years of related experience
  • Knowledge of industrial processes, preferably automotive
  • Knowledge of quality Core Tools (APQP, PPAP, FMEA2, SPC, MSA, CP)
  • Knowledge of problem-solving tools (8D, Red X, Six-Sigma)
  • Demonstrated leadership in problem solving
  • Excellent verbal and communication skills for presentations at any level of the organization
  • Ability to adapt and be a continuous learner
