Position Summary

The Department of Cell Biology and Physiology at The University of New Mexico School of Medicine seeks a talented and highly motivated Cancer Biologist to fill a full-time post-doctoral researcher position in the LncRNA, Epigenetics, and Genome Organization (LEGO) Laboratory at North Campus. The successful candidate will play a vital role in advancing the lab's research objectives, including investigating non-canonical pathways of chromosome instability, specifically investigating the mechanism of R-loop-mediated epigenetic changes and time-resolved transcriptomic changes in cancer cells.

The ideal applicant will hold a Ph.D. in cancer biology, chromosome biology, RNA biology, or closely related fields by the start date of the appointment. Candidates should have demonstrated exceptional laboratory skills and one or more first-author publications in peer-reviewed journals. Successful candidates will perform animal cell culture, nucleic acid/protein isolation, biochemistry assays, qPCR, prepare samples for Next-generation sequencing, atomic force microscopy, and immunofluorescence/FISH assays. Furthermore, the candidate will be an ambitious researcher eager to work on interdisciplinary projects with the lab's Principal Investigator (PI), other lab members, collaborators, core facilities, and institutions from different universities.

To succeed in this position, the candidate should possess excellent organizational, record-keeping, and interpersonal skills. They will work closely with fellow team members and coordinate laboratory research projects. This will involve managing research materials and specimens, maintaining laboratory equipment, performing quality control checks, and adhering to all relevant laboratory and safety protocols.

In addition to their laboratory duties, the successful candidate will have opportunities to participate in research publications and present their findings at scientific conferences. The position also provides opportunities for professional development and mentorship, enabling individuals to advance their scientific careers while contributing to groundbreaking research.

Our research institution is located in the culturally rich city of Albuquerque, New Mexico. The lively Albuquerque area also offers a plethora of outdoor recreational opportunities, museums, art galleries, and vibrant culinary experiences to explore and enjoy. Combining quality academics and unique cultural experiences makes Albuquerque a great place to live and work. If you are passionate about cancer biology and RNA research, please apply to join our vibrant, dynamic team in the LEGO Laboratory at The University of New Mexico School of Medicine.

Effort distribution:
- Wet lab biochemical experiments (including but not limited to cell culture, sample preparations, siRNA/shRNA/ASO mediated knockdowns, RT-qPCR, chromatin extraction, immunoblotting, immunofluorescence, DNA/RNA-FISH, AFM, and confocal microscopy imaging, and analysis) - 60%
- Protocol standardization, testing novel methodologies, and data analysis - 20%
- Collaborating with laboratory members and external collaborators to design experiments and analyze data - 10%
- Presenting at scientific conferences, both local and international, and making substantial contributions to manuscript preparation for submission to peer-reviewed journals - 10%.
