THE POSITION

We are seeking a dedicated and experienced Forest Technician that shares in our mission to protect our agricultural resources and preserve our vibrant ecosystems. The Spotted Lanternfly is a significant threat to Pennsylvania's agriculture and the well-being of our communities. These invasive pests can wreak havoc on our trees, plants, and crops, leading to losses in the hundreds of millions of dollars each year. The Department of Agriculture needs your help! DESCRIPTION OF WORK

In this essential position, you will collaborate closely with colleagues in both field and office settings within the Spotted Lanternfly regional offices, working alongside Plant Inspection Program Specialists and their teams to ensure smooth and effective operations. Your responsibilities will include conducting inventories of host trees for the Spotted Lanternfly, performing ground pest surveys, and assisting with direct suppression efforts, biocontrol measures, trapping, and sampling. Additionally, you will establish field study plots as needed to aid in the control of the Spotted Lanternfly.

Work Schedule and Additional Information:

  • Full-time employment
  • Work hours are 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM, Monday - Friday, with a 30-minute lunch.
  • Telework: You may have the opportunity to work from home (telework) part-time, up to 5 days per pay period. In order to telework, you must have a securely configured high-speed internet connection and work from an approved location inside Pennsylvania. If you are unable to telework, you will have the option to report to the headquarters office in Palm. The ability to telework is subject to change at any time. Additional details may be provided during the interview.
  • Salary: In some cases, the starting salary may be non-negotiable.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY

QUALIFICATIONS
Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:

  • An associate's degree in forest technology; or
  • Completion of equivalent formal education in forestry.
  • Applicants will be considered to have met the educational requirements once they are within 3 months of graduating with a qualifying degree.

Condition of Employment:

  • This position requires possession of a valid PA non-commercial Class C driver's license or equivalent.

Other Requirements:

  • PA residency requirement is currently waived for this title.
  • You must be able to perform essential job functions.
