The Position
We are seeking a Data Scientist with expertise in Generative AI and Traditional Machine Learning to design, build, and deploy AI/ML-powered solutions that enhance operational efficiency, automate workflows, and drive strategic decision-making. As part of the Digital Strategy and Products (DS&P) team, you will play a key role in shaping and delivering AI-driven capabilities across the enterprise. You will report directly to the AI Strategy Lead and work in close partnership with AI Champions as well as colleagues in Data Insights, Digital Environment, and Digital Workflow teams. This role demands technical excellence, business acumen, and adaptability to integrate AI/ML into existing enterprise systems while collaborating across IT/Informatics and Site Services business functions.
The Opportunity
Roles & Responsibilities:
Generative AI Development
Design, develop, and deploy AI-powered workflows, assistants, and automation using Large Language Models (LLMs). Build and optimize retrieval-augmented generation (RAG) pipelines, integrating with enterprise systems via APIs. Apply prompt engineering and fine-tuning to improve model output quality and relevance. Rapidly develop proof-of-concept and production-ready solutions that address targeted business needs. Continuously evaluate emerging AI capabilities to identify innovation opportunities.
Traditional ML Development
Perform data preparation, exploratory data analysis (EDA), and statistical modeling. Develop, deploy, and monitor supervised and unsupervised ML models (e.g., regression, decision trees, SVMs, clustering). Implement automated retraining pipelines and performance optimization strategies. Integrate ML outputs into operational systems to support business decision-making.
Collaboration & Business Integration
Engage cross-functionally with IT/Informatics, Site Services, and DS&P teams to ensure AI/ML initiatives align with enterprise priorities. Partner with AI Champions to identify, refine, and deliver impactful AI solutions. Facilitate knowledge sharing and best practices across business units to accelerate AI adoption. Translate complex AI concepts into clear, actionable insights for non-technical stakeholders. Collaborate with Data Insights, Digital Environment, and Digital Workflow teams to ensure AI/ML capabilities are embedded into enterprise digital platforms. Support change management and adoption by building trust, demonstrating value, and addressing user concerns.

Skills & Experience:
Required Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Data Science, Engineering, or related field (or equivalent practical experience). 1-3 years of experience in AI/ML, data science, or applied analytics. Hands-on experience with Generative AI tools and frameworks, including LangChain, OpenAI API, Google Gemini, Anthropic Claude, and AWS Bedrock. Hands-on experience with Traditional AI tools and frameworks, including Snowflake, AWS (SageMaker, Lambda, S3, CloudWatch), Python (Pandas, NumPy, Scikit-learn, TensorFlow, PyTorch, Matplotlib, Seaborn), and SQL Strong understanding of LLMs and ML algorithms, evaluation metrics, and cloud-based deployment practices.
Preferred Qualifications
Knowledge of cloud security, scalability, and monitoring best practices. Experience with MLOps, API development, and containerized deployments (Kubernetes, Kubeflow). Strong portfolio demonstrating end-to-end AI/ML project delivery.

This position is not eligible for relocation. The expected salary range for this position based on the primary location of California is $122,300 - $227,100 USD Annual. Actual pay will be determined based on experience, qualifications, geographic location, and other job-related factors permitted by law.
