Position Summary

The
University of New Mexico Student Health & Counseling clinic (SHAC) is
recruiting for a Community Health Worker who will provide:

  • A warm, judgment-free space for
    students.
  • Offer one-on-one peer support,
    connecting students with resources and helping them navigate recovery on
    campus.
  • Works in coordinating with interns and peer support volunteers.
  • Facilitate weekly peer-led support
    groups.
  • Plan campus events that promote
    wellness and community.
  • Ensure programming reflects
    multiple pathways to recovery.
  • Conducts workshops in coordination with counseling services .
  • Collaborate with departments
    and faculty.
  • Conduct outreach across campus
    to engage students, faculty, and staff.
  • Represent the CRC at events,
    fairs, orientations, and gatherings.
  • Develop proposals for expanded
    services.
  • Work towards making the CRC a
    training ground for future behavioral health professionals.
  • Participates in programming that centers
    cultural wealth, recovery capital, and ancestral healing-especially for
    Latinx, BIPOC, and first-generation students.

The
Student Health & Counseling Center is located at the center of campus. The
clinic provides comprehensive primary and mental health services and has a
laboratory, x-ray, pharmacy, physical therapy, massage, acupuncture, case
management, and health promotions on site. Other medical services provided are
same day appointments, travel medicine, immunizations, and sports medicine.

Conditions of Employment
  • Possession of a valid New Mexico driver's license is a requirement for this job.
  • Must pass a pre-employment criminal background check.
  • Fingerprinting, and subsequent clearance, may be required for this position depending on assignment.
  • May be required to obtain a Community Support Worker (CSW) certification within six months of hire.
  • Employees who provide services or work in patient care or clinical areas are required to be in compliance with the University's influenza vaccination requirement.
  • Successful candidate must submit to post-offer, pre-employment physical examination and medical history check.


Minimum Qualifications

High school diploma or GED; at least 1 year of experience directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified.

Completed degree(s) from an accredited institution that are above the minimum education requirement may be substituted for experience on a year for year basis.

  • Experience working with a student population
