Position Summary

The University of New Mexico Student Health & Counseling clinic (SHAC) is recruiting for a knowledgeable, detail-oriented Registered Nurse to provide professional nurse services/case management for a diverse university student body in our General Medicine (primary care and ASAP care) clinics. A background in urgent care, public health, and/or primary care desired.

The Student Health & Counseling Center is located at the center of campus. The clinic provides comprehensive primary and mental health services and has a laboratory, x-ray, pharmacy, physical therapy, acupuncture, case management, and health promotions on site. Other medical services provided are same day appointments, travel medicine, immunizations, and sports medicine.

Conditions of Employment
  • CPR Certification must be obtained within 2 weeks of date of hire.
  • Successful candidate must submit to post-offer, pre-employment physical examination and medical history check.
  • IV Certification within 6 months of hire may be required for some positions in this classification, depending on the individual needs of the department
  • Employees who provide services or work in patient care or clinical areas are required to be in compliance with the University's influenza vaccination requirement.


Minimum Qualifications

Graduate of a nationally accredited Nursing program; no previous experience required.
Certification/Licensure
State of New Mexico Licensed Registered Nurse or licensure pending as documented by temporary licensure OR current RN licensure from a state participating in the multistate privilege to practice compact with New Mexico.

Completed degree(s) from an accredited institution that are above the minimum education requirement may be substituted for experience on a year for year basis.



Preferred Qualifications

The following are the preferred experience and
skills for this position:

  • Previous
    experience with processing refill requests for medical providers.
  • Previous
    experience with medication and clinical care prior authorization
    processing.
  • Experience
    documenting in the electronic medical health record.
  • Candidate
    who has good communication skills because will be interacting with
    students by either phone or messaging regarding plan of care and treatment
    plans.
  • Prior
    experience in coordination of referrals for specialty care including
    diagnostics and procedures.
  • Registered
    Nurse, licensed in the State of NM, who can work effectively as a member
    of a team, prioritize multiple demands, and remain calm in stressful
    situations.
  • Experience
    in a variety of clinical settings including public health, urgent care,
    primary care, and sexual health.
  • Work
    effectively with a largely adolescent/young adult population.
  • Competent
    in IV starts /administer IV medications.
  • Willing
    and able to work up to 1.0FTE, (5) five days a week, Monday- Friday,
    8AM-5PM, no weekends or holidays and no on-call.
